Week 35/36 US Open New York Hard

Very frustrating scheduling with Boulter last match on Grandstand after a womens doubles including Pegula who has just started her singles match .

The estimated start time for Katie is 11pm UK time . This looks more like 2am now .

Burel ended up being comprehensively defeated (1-6 1-6) by Sabalenka, and Minnen has just lost 3-6 4-6 to Kasatkina. So only Bronzetti of the trio remains standing.

 One set all

Pegula's match has gone to a deciding set, so won't be finished for a while yet. As she will be allowed rest time between matchs there is enough time for Katie's match to be fitted in. We'll have to wait and see if USO have the sense to start it at 6pm local as scheduled.

I fear common sense wont prevail.

It would only be fair and sensible for Katie and Peyton if a decision was made some time ago that Katie and Peyton would be next on. Otherwise, leave it rather than muck them about.

Not great for us but maybe better for the players prep just to observe and estimate their starting time based on the scheduled order as they would normally do. It's still only 5.40 pm local time just now and the organisers have no need to change things.

A "what if" scenario may have even been discussed with the players.

Its 5.53 pm here and no reason why they cant play it tonight, unless grandstand court has no lights? Why would they not play it, theyve gone late many times over the years and its only a womens doubles beforehand?

Grandstand will have lights. Outside courts had lights when I was there many years ago.

They could move Pegulas doubles of course to another court, but it is still a box office match. If it started at say 7 and ended at 9, katie could still play happily starting at 9 without it being too late.

Theyre scheduling for a USA audience remember and the doubles is the two top American women so theyll want that on Labour Day weekend and Katie as well. There is the start of the college football season tonight clashing but the scheduling feels fine unless youre a British fan back in the UK.

Also Coco is on the day schedule tomorrow theyre saying here so she cant be swapped with Katies match, it needs to be played earlier. Last match is too late and unless they withdraw, itll stay on.

1st set 6-4 to Peyton, breaking Katie in the final game.

Bit of a nervy surrender at the end, it appeared. A few netted backhands cost her.

Way too many errors from Katie, she was pretty much in every game in set 1 - but would miss or double fault oh game / break points. Katie seems a bit flat right now

Katie really didnt play the big points well, but her opponent really deserved that. She had no nerves and that forehand is huge! Great tournament for Katie, I just hope she can get some top 100 wins soon
