Week 34 US Open Qualifying

Margarita Betova, that must be about as good as it gets?

Extraordinary performances by Miyazaki on hard court at the Slams this year. She's scored eight Top 200 wins in 2023, five of which have come in Melbourne and New York.

Betova (nee Gasparyan) isn't exactly a walking bye, but is on a 15 match losing streak and has only won 2 sets in 2023. After an injury filled career, she took time out from tennis to give birth to her first child in December 2021 and came back on a protected ranking at the start of the year.

Yay, well done Lily !

40 points for her. If she manages a MD R1 win for 70 more points she will take out her CH 169.

May the draw gods give her a chance.

 Thank you

And don't you hate it when our player loses and then their opponent retires in the next match? hmm

Wickmayer only lasted four games....

You'll hate this even more. Wickmayer has a LL spot and plays a qualifier - Zvonareva

Im slightly amazed that someone who withdraws in qualies can still get an LL spot into the main draw! Wow. Seems open to massive abuse..:

Rather strange that they can remain in. Though not sure about any massive abuse given the draw for LLs.

Ok, hadnt realised they have a draw - sorry dont tend to follow rules too closely - and assumed it was next highest ranked got in. Which it used to be once upon a time? And then was probably open to abuse?

nonetheless. Not sure a person retiring in what is officially the same event should be able to return and play again?

Fantastic result for Lily who Surbiton apart had struggled this year after just missing out on the Australian Open MD, great chance in R1 as well.
