Extraordinary performances by Miyazaki on hard court at the Slams this year. She's scored eight Top 200 wins in 2023, five of which have come in Melbourne and New York.
Margarita Betova, that must be about as good as it gets?
Current ranking 1039. Yep I would say so!
Betova (nee Gasparyan) isn't exactly a walking bye, but is on a 15 match losing streak and has only won 2 sets in 2023. After an injury filled career, she took time out from tennis to give birth to her first child in December 2021 and came back on a protected ranking at the start of the year.
And don't you hate it when our player loses and then their opponent retires in the next match?
Wickmayer only lasted four games....
You'll hate this even more. Wickmayer has a LL spot and plays a qualifier - Zvonareva
Im slightly amazed that someone who withdraws in qualies can still get an LL spot into the main draw! Wow. Seems open to massive abuse..:
Rather strange. Though not sure about any5 massive abuse given the draw for LLs.
Ok, hadnt realised they have a draw - sorry dont tend to follow rules too closely - and assumed it was next highest ranked got in. Which it used to be once upon a time? And then was probably open to abuse?
nonetheless. Not sure a person retiring in what is officially the same event should be able to return and play again?
