Week 31 - WTA250 - Prague, Czech Republic Hard

Q1: BAINS, Naikltha (GBR) 297 (CH=199 2020) v KRAUS, Sinja (AUT) (11) 202 (CH=151 2023)

We may have other entries in the Q draw when it is published this came from the order of play. Washington has published the R1 draw but not the Q1 draw. I will add more when it is published.

TNNS have the qualifying draw and Naiktha is the only Brit amogst the 24 players. Top seed is Tamara Korpatsch WR100, which means Jodie may be in the main draw. Heather is still in Warsaw though.
I believe Lissey and Liv, amd Maia and Naiktha are entered or the doubles.

The BBC are reporting that Russian and Belarusian players who were due to play have been told not to travel to the tournament.

The first Russian to arrive was stopped by police at the airport and told to leave the country.

the WTA of course are standing up for the neutrality of these players and monitoring the situation. They dont seem to understand the whole neutrality situation is a joke and irrelevant to the governments in Czechia or Poland - the players are Russian and Belarusian and they dont want them there and have the right to stop them playing. I only wish more countries had done it.

Naiktha holds from *0-40 at *3-4, then breaks and serves out the set.

6-4 0-0*

The question is when did Czechia and Poland decide to ban all those players. They would have entered weeks ago and yet it's not until the day they arrive that they suddenly announce they aren't allowed to play.

The Czech authorities actually banned Russians in October - so more to point, why did these players even bother entering and why didnt the WTA stop them on their systems?

Authorities in Czech Republic will bar Russian citizens holding Schengen tourist, sports, or culture visas from entering the Czech Republic, effective Oct. 25. Czech authorities stated that the restriction was directly linked to recent Russian attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine.13 Oct 2022

Reposting from LordBrownof in the Entries section

Heather has received a SE into Prague main draw. Plays Niemeier (chance for revenge). No sign of Jodie.

Q1: BAINS, Naikltha (GBR) 297 def KRAUS, Sinja (AUT) (11) 202 6-4 6-2

Q2: BAINS, Naikltha (GBR) 297 (CH=199 2020) v KNUTSON, Gabriela (CZE) 235
The WTA site gives Knutson's CH=0 but it is probably 235. I tried the ITF site but they are not showing data on any players at present.

R1: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 134 (CH=38 2015) v NIEMEIER, Jule (GER) 101 (CH=61 2022)

They have played 3 times before with Jule winning at Wimbledon in 2022 and Heather winning at Monterrey in 2022 and Nottingham in 2023.

Back on serve, though her opponent has a couple of break points.

Edit: But how quickly the momentum shifts: saved one, and the other to make deuce, gave away another break point which Knutson took, who then enjoyed a smooth service game to take the first set

Lost 6-3 6-2 and glancing at some of the other names in the qualifying draw, I doubt she has much hope of a lucky loser spot. Doubles to look forward to.
