Good draw - the Canadian top two are not exactly in good form and the other two are beatable on a hard court. Ruusuvuori is dangerous but our strength in depth should win through.
I was about to comment similar. Haven't seen the other draws yet to see whether it was relatively kind to us, on face value feels decent.
Might be an idea if someone who follows this closely pre-tournament starts a new thread. Week 37 in the title will be confusing as the season goes on.
It actually will be week 37 that it takes place this year as well! but Ill stsrt a new thread if someone mod like can maybe move the later 2024 posts over?
They seem to be announcing the teams for the Davis Cup Finals, Group stage. 2 months in advance?!
Some of interest:
France - Humbert, Mannarino, Fils, Mpetshi Perricard
Brazil - 17 year old junior champ Fonseca is in the team
Italy - Sinner and Musetti picked, Berretini not
Canada (in the Manchester group) - FAA, Shapo, Diallo, Raonic, Pospisil
Australia - AdM, Thompson, Purcell, Ebden, Popyrin
USA - Korda, Giron, Nakashima, Krajicek and Ram (no Fritz or Paul)
Finland (in Manchester group) - Harri H, Ruusuvuori, Virtanen, Salminen
GREAT BRITAIN - DRAPER, NORRIE, EVANS, SALISBURY, SKUPSKI - too soon for Henry or Julian to get into the team, and Billy obviously not established enough to get in over Evo
Argentina (in Manchester group) - Baez, Etchevery, Cerundulo, Molteni, Maximo Gonzalez

Yes it will be interesting to see how they all do at the US open. Dan has his value in doubles and team spirit but not singles at the moment. Difficult decisions ahead!
it will be interesting, and with Cam currently injured, will he be fit to play DC in a months time.
Someone asked why Andy is still in the rankings on a separate thread - would he need to not be formally retired to play a DC tie and could he just be keeping Leon's options open for him by staying as a live player??

Players have to formally request that they be removed from the rankings or they stay on until all their points drop off.
The only way to formally retire is to remove yourself from the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme testing which means you can't play any tennis events covered by the programme. Otherwise you could say you're retiring and then change your mind a month later.
And no incentive for Leon Smith to change any noms until nearer the start of the event.

yeah, realise that re formally requesting - but in terms of why Andy wouldnt have formally requested to come off - 1) he hasnt got around to it 2) he is just keeping his options open 3) he cant be bothered and is happy to continue to be dope tested
1 is most likely; but i was wondering if 2 might just be in play as well. I realise Leon wont change any noms right now, but keeping his options open quietly in the background...?
I cant see Andy being around in September. After the latest injury which he has basically been playing with i think his body needs to recover. However Id never say never with Andy although if he did I reckon it would be doubles only.
Andy's announced his retirement. I don't think we need to read anything into his not removing himself from rankings and/or anti-doping programme less than a week after he last played.
