From the Beeb's text commentary:

'It's going to come down to the wire'

Evans / Skupski 6-3 6-3 Wawrinka / Stricker

Captain Leon Smith, Neal Skupski and Dan Evans speaking to BBC after their two-set win over Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Stricker.

Skupski: "They really came out swinging against Andy. Stan came out firing against Norrie. It's nice for Leon to have trust in us and we got it done in the end."

Evans: "It's amazing to play with him, it's so much fun. We're good friends off the court so it makes it easier. He's pretty good at doubles. I enjoyed it and it was a chance to play in front of this crowd again. Thanks everyone for coming out."

Skuspki: "The crowd got fired up and it helped us. When the crowd get involved we seemed to click and get extra hyped."

Leon Smith: "We're using the whole squad and that's really important. I basically sat and watched everyone play tennis for about seven hours. Andy did a fantastic job in that first match. You ask the players to give their best effort. Stan played unbelievably well. Cam was great as well. I was hoping for dinner around nine o'clock and that's what we've got so well done!

"We have to get ready for Sunday and take it from there. It's going to come down to the wire. We need a full house and massive noise."

(my bold in the paragraph quoting Dan on Neal.  wink

I like Naomi as a pundit but these on court interviews have been a car crash.

 BBC iplayer app JonH.

The programmes only show shortly before programming starts and is frozen screen until pretty much 1pm when the teams are announced. Certainly no big Sky build up but at least you don't have to suffer adverts..

Yeah I got the sense that they were mostly dreading what Naomi might ask but I found her refreshing in that she cut through well for me and certainly she knew some of the guys as juniors. She questioned Evans about his single BH at around the age 11-13 he got coached into that technique and pulled no punches with Murray about his book. I thought she was bold with her questions, more enjoyable than the usual borefest questions I heard at the US Open, crowd pressing garbage.

Just checked back and last year they seeded the group winners when it came to the knockout finals in November. So some benefit to coming top , which Britain will do if they win against France .

Somehow I dont think thats very likely. Nothing to play for. Lets hope Smiths decision to play Norrie today doesnt prove costly.

Looking at it differently you can assume Australia win 3-0 and the loser of Britain and France misses out .

I would imagine Evans will play Mannarino ( 4-1 H2H ) and Draper v Humbert . Jack has never played Humbert but the match up could favour him.

Andy is 3-0 v Mannarino but 2 of those wins were in 2015 and the Frenchman is playing his best tennis this year. Andy is also 2-0 v Humbert. Norrie is 3-1 over Mannarino and 1-1 v Humbert

If it comes down to doubles GB should edge it.

Spain are out, having lost 3-0 to both Serbia and the Czech Republic.

Indeed, as are Korea In that group and Croatia elsewhere.

we need to just cheer in the Swiss tomorrow and hope they win to put us through. If not we most

likely will need to beat France - which will be tough but do able.

Evo has interestingly got a 4-1 win loss record versus Mannarino. He might be our best match up against the French number 2, unless Fils gets put into the team of course.
