Week 29 - ITF W25 - Roehampton, GB Hard

Gosh, that doubles was pretty unwatchable

Holly serves two double faults when 6-3 up.

Some real tentative stuff.

But Holly and Maddie get the win 10-8 - someone had to win it, I guess.....

The stream dropped out for me on both doubles matches at the same time. I managed to get the other match back, but no luck with this match.

Probably just as well.

I watched the MTB of the other one too.....

The best doubles player on the court was the only non-British one, I thought.....

As ranking suggest she should have been! Great to see Beth back on the doubles trail.

With that QF win, for at least one week Marni should be into the top 400 for the first time, and to GB #12, when the points from here get added on 31/07.

To stay there in the short term she will probably have to carry on winning this week, as the following rankings week she will drop 19 points from a quali & SF at last year's Nottingham W25.

More importantly. yes longer term looking good. Stay fit and well and there should be much more to come.

Would love Marni to be near the top 200 by Wimbledon next year

Marni has 59 points off before October (all from GB events) - so it will be difficult unless she travels.

Yes, but that is fairly short term points drops.

Her ranking by Wimbledon next year will basically be down to the points she accumulates in the year prior to that. A lot to do but off to a decent start.

W25 runner-up is not good enough - she played 4 15k events  in Monastir for 8 points. All the players from #11 (Anna B) to #14 (Elily App) will still be ahead of her.

Marni is down for a W100 next week. That should be an interesting challenge.

What a strange match. Nine games in a row for H+M and in full control, then they tightened up and the errors mounted up and B+R played better and better.

Well, this is rather disappointing ::((

Marni reminds me of the quote (from Eric Morecombe?) about playing all the right notes, just not necessarily in the right order.

That's Marni - lots of great shots, just not at the right time - no real schema of play, stays at the back when it's glaringly obvious she should come in and take the ball out the air, decides to do a drop shot at the wrong time (and then announces it to the world, so Asia has all the time needed to come in a deal with it)

Asia has been playing with a very clear strategy

However, Marni has FINALLY won a game. And now it's 1-1 in the second set (just don't ask about the first one)
