So happy for Jodie. Getting the win and finally cracking the top 100. Hopefully both her and Boulter can gain direct entry into the US Open.
I reckon they should as they have little to defend, but it just depends on what happens around them. Usuallya round 100 isn't it? although SEs kick in. Also protected rankings.
Two terrible doubles back to back leave Katie *15-40 down.
She saves the first, just, when Bencic nets a volley that was easier than others she's made. Poor decision making on the second, goes for totally the wrong shot which makes it so easy for the Swiss.
Real shame for Katie. Had the chances but didn't play the big points well enough. Overall a good level, so a bit unfortunate with the draw - I've no doubt she had the good to beat a number of players today.
Perhaps the real kicker comes through commentary, the second serve at *5-6 deuce was actually in, she didn't challenge, it gave Bencic a set point and that's that. If only....
Got to hope for an injury free second half of the year. She can compete at this level. 140 isn't where she should be.
5-7 2-6

Swan competed well enough, but Bencic just didn't miss anything. Asking a lot to beat someone near the top of the game, with all the experience too. The pressure told middle of the 2nd set, how to keep winning points when the opponent's form doesn't seem to dip. Swan's game is improving, but she needs to be playing higher quality opposition on a regular basis. Bencic was so precise, and hit the 1st return with power too. The good thing is Swan didn't seem to be hampered by injury, so hopefully she'll have success over the next few months. No disgrace to lose today.
A disappointing grass court season for Swan, with only one further match win after reaching the final at Surbiton. Injury problems again and then unfortunate to face Bencic at Wimbledon. At times she can look the best of the (British) bunch, but just needs a little luck to go her way. She definitely has the talent to be Top 100 too.
Kenin v Gauff going into a decider. Both playing well
This is not the same Kenin who lost in the first round of Eastbourne qualifying to Sonay Kartal.
This is the Kenin that came though qualifying at Roehampton last week. Was looking good then, and even better today.
(She lost to Sonay in Nottingham BTW)
Sorry my bad. And yes, Kenin has gone from strength this grass court season. And back into the Top 100 following today's win. Hope she is back challenging for titles before too long.
