Week 27/28 - Wimbledon Ladies, Great Britain Grass

Yeah I think the right woman won in the end - Parry played well and was the more positive player in the end. Real shame for Harriet as I think she would've won that handily if she'd played like she did earlier in the grass season.

Parry was so tight as well, just slicing everything in the last couple of games and Harriet was just framing balls a mile wide time and time again.

And so the disappointment commences...... ::((

Harriet got sucked into all those slice and dice exchanges earlier on; Parry stopped charging the net on ridiculous balls, which was unfortunate for GB hopes; and Harriet didn't use the end of the second set as a perfect time to reallytry a few things - running into the net 'contre-temps', drop shots into the wind, whatever - at 0-4 down it was the perfect time

Certainly a missed chance....

This looked like a great chance for Dart .

Given so few chances for the women to get into the second round this is a dreadful start for the Brits . What makes this worse is Parry didnt play well but Dart played a shocker .

Yes, Parry's return of serve was poor. Her net approaches for 75% of the match were dreadful.

In better news iPlayer is back up for anyone wanting to watch a match not on the main feed.

Jo doing a nice commentary job on Court 1. Nice to hear her voice.

Ahhhh. well. I'll repeat a statement from previous threads, the top 5 women's wildcards have improved or defended their 2022 points, and looking towards the end of the year, I have higher hopes of rankings rises, and more overall experience at this level. But yeah, I'm really trying to polish a t...

Yeah if Harriet isn't getting through I'm thinking we will be lucky to get 1 win. I'm hoping Bencic is seriously rusty and Katie S is fit enough to take advantage as we know she's capable of.

I do feel for Harriet, time is passing and she's got herself stuck in that horrible 120-150 zone that is so hard to get back out of. A win today for 70points would have barely lifted her up 10 places.

Hopefully she can get over this and have a good summer on the hardcourts. Some of those wins in recent weeks were so good and it's a shame if that is basically all nullified by today.

Any thoughts on whether Dart is injured at all. Her shoulder was strapped and her serve and groundstrokes lacking some pop.

I am hoping Harriet will get a partner in the mixed and maybe gain some confidence (and money) with a decent run there, let's see

Hi. Not, tbh, I didn't think Dart looked as though she was playing injured at all.

Her shots looked like her normal pace - it was very windy so obviously some of the shots into the wind look a bit tame, and Parry's slice meant Harriet couldn't always hit through the ball. But it looked normal to me, and the strapping looked precautionary, like so many of them have. It's pretty rare that any player has no physical issues at all, anyway.

And obviously Katie Boulter too - do you not think she's got a good chance?

I do but then I started today with no doubt about Harriet given how she's been playing last couple of weeks. The sort of level she played in her loss to Ostapenko she'd have blitzed today. But not to be, and at least she's not Rakhimova who lost 7 points in a row to lose a final set breaker from *9-5 up...

Going three this one 0-4*

This looks too easy for Parry in this second set - I wonder if Harriet is 100% fit, she has strapping to that shoulder. Just saw Novak arrive with his Waitrose bag!

This does surprise me. He has always struck me more as a Farm foods guy

 biggrin
