Very sad . Another opportunity gone for Jabeur who on paper should be winning this match easily .

Her body language was terrible and although I feel very sorry for her part of being a champion is coping with the pressure which she cant do in major finals .

In all honesty Vondrousova is a very lucky winner who managed to avoid the big players , Pegula imploded , Svitolina did the same and now Jabeur .

She didnt even play that well today but to be blunt most players could have beaten Jabeur today .

Lets bear in mind that an 18 year old Raducanu beat Vondrousova at Wimbledon 2 years ago

Vondrousova was the player who beat Jo and stopped her reaching the final in Paris in 2019. Vondrousova also beat Emma and Harriet very easily in the BJK cup last year. However in her previous 4 Wimbledons she had only won 1 match. She was also silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. The comment about Vondrousova being a very lucky winner probably applies to Emma as well at the 2021 US Open. It  just shows how many talented players the Czech Republic  has.

I am pleases Marketa won better player on the day and she hascan interesting game she destroyed Pegula in last set of QF. Jabour too much expectation and Marketa handled the crowd so well.

To make her Wimbledon fortnight complete, I am sure Marketa will be delighted to discover that in rising to WR 10 the new rankings will confirm that she has led the Czechs to #1 in our Stongest Nation thread, taking over from the long time leaders, USA

I watched the final and have to say the quality was not great. Wonder if our top 5 were watching and thinking they could play at that level!

I also watched the final - well some of it - and found myself reading the paper after a while as the tennis wasn't good.

Yes, I really like Annabel's presenting and punditry. And I trust it is also fine to say that she looks great for 57 yo.

I think it's fine, especially as you're also congratulating her skills. I wish she was given more opportunities. She generally doesn't get the best gigs, either by the BBC or cable channels and I find it a bit mystifying because she's both relateable as an interviewer and full of insight as a pundit. Maybe her looks mean that those in charge don't take her so seriously.

I'd love her to front more shows and have a bigger role.

The thing is though that holding your nerve is also a massive part of any sport. Often the person who wins the big points comes through. Also Tracy Austin was saying on commentary how much Vondrousova varied her play which can put off an opponent who isn't used to it. She upsets their rhythm and that's a smart play. I don't think it's fair to just blame luck. You still have to beat who is in front of you and she did that.

I agree with all of that and especially given her husband died last month as well, shes just a lovely person overall is Annabel.

Personally, I think Annabel should be the anchor on the BBC Wimbledon coverage = having heard Ms Balding comment on the women's final......" well if it had been over 5 sets, it may have been different... I switched it off.

Ms Balding was using the 5 set argument when Bouchard was losing badly to Kvitova in 2014. There are enough ex tennis players now commentating one would have thought one of them e.g. Annabel would have been a suitable replacement for Sue Barker. Ms.Balding now no longer commentates on the sport she knows something about i.e horse racing

Sadly didnt get to see any of the final and was sad to see Ons lose as I like her game, from what Ive seen of it. Well done Vondrousova, although I know very little of her.

Jon I could sum up her career that has registered with  me. She was top seed at junior Wimbledon in 1995 and was beaten by Anna Brogan in the 1st round. She defeated Jo in the semi finals in Paris in 2019. At the BJK Cup  2022 she defeated booth Harriet and Emma hardly losing any games. She seemed to be injured rather a lot.

 I totally agree.

Didn't the head thing happen to Mauresmo too, and I'm sure plenty of others? I guess I'm biased as I do like Ons. It did make for not the greatest tennis match though.
