And she's just retired. So shows what could have been if Heather could have won her second set yesterday...
I think Mirra's groundstrokes were too strong - she is showing lots of promise for a 16-year-old - into round 3 having also come through qualifying. Looks like her ranking is about 80 now and reached the same stage at RG. Impressive. Shame for Heather but.....
Tomova doing a nice job of working her way into this match and figuring out how to trouble Katie after being blitzed in the opener. But Katie has got it back in serve, a very different match though.
Two dead net cords help Katie break, she then misses a point for *4-0
*3-1
Surely Katie has this now 5-2 up final set. Well done. Reaching the R3 two years in succession. The next match-up looks a bit more challenging, though (Rybakina or Cornet), but never say never!
A double fault, insanely tight forehand that hits half way up the net. Great serve, then wins a ludicrous point that was both brilliant and diabolical. Gets match point, almost perfect serve but Tomova gets it in play and Katie misses a short ball she should have made. Nets a backhand on the second, then puts a forehand away to win 6-0 3-6 6-4.
