Week 27/28 - Wimbledon Ladies, Great Britain Grass

Some excellent exchanges from the get go in Sonay v Keys. She misses a break point.

*0-1

The match against Bianca last week will have been a big help.

Keys continuing her form from Eastbourne. Sonay is actually hitting the ball pretty well mostly but it's just a huge level gap.

*0-5

Bencic, Krejcikova, Keys. These were really tough draws for girls who had plenty capability to take out girls outside the top 70. But that's the way it goes!

I am listening to BBC commentary; they didn't know Madison had won Eastbourne WTA500 last week! Hopeless,

Xorrection they have picked up on it now. Feel for Sonay.

Three tough draws, three winnable matches (Saville, McNally, Parry). Not unreasonable when you consider all 6 players were wild cards. And you could argue that Boulter, Burrage and Dart were most 'deserving' of the winnable matches based on their grass court form. But of course it starts to even out once you get into main draws on a regular basis.

Sonay loses 6-0 6-3. Battled hard, some superb points and some very close games in the second. Frustrating to miss the four break points which would have given Madison food for thought but she never really looked like turning it around.

Thanks. And fair dos. As I said elsewhere I don't think there is any real drama with the schedule ( and the roof discussions ) and that they will probably have caught up after Friday. But not after Thursday, with some bottom half R2 matches still needing played on Friday.

At least she is due on first on Friday before ( we hope! ) her Saturday R3 match.
