Week 27/28 - Wimbledon Ladies, Great Britain Grass

Jodie opening Centre Court. Way to make her even more nervous!

Heather second on Court 1.

Katie second on Court 18.

Sonay on court 3.

If we manage 2 wins from those 4 matches then that will be a great achievement Id say.

So far mixed success. Harriet obviously pretty disappointing. I feel she should and could have won her match. Katie S actually played quite well but considering how long Bencic has been out for it was a shame Katie couldn't win the first set as I think she might have gone on to possibly win the match but she was outclassed really in the end.

I thought Jodie played really well though I would have been very disappointed if she had lost. She's got a very tough match today but she can certainly get after Kasatkina's pretty average serve. being on Centre Court should be an inspiration to her and hopefully it will be pretty full when the match starts.

similarly, it always seems a missed opportunity when there are no GB players opening up on the outside courts. This happens all the time. Today we will have about 5 or 6 players on various courts at 2pm. Just scheduling 1 or 2 of them earlier would create some GB publicity, TV coverage etc. If I had CC tickets today I would love to have watched one of our players first on an accessible court, cant believe Im alone on that.

I actually have Centercourt tickets on Sunday and Im hoping for something interesting to catch at 11am then

I think any of Jodie (versus kasatkina), Heather (versus krajcikova) or sonay ( versus Keys) would be an incredible win.

anything above 1 win would be amazing, for Katie B, but anything less than 1 would be very disappointing

Swan has had tough draws the last few years at wimby, Keys, Kostyuk, Bencic - and she performed well against all of them. I think she would have exploited a weaker draw, and then who knows.

Nice article on BBC about her:

I agree, those are tough matches. Saw Kasatkina and Keys win last week at Eastbourne and the conditions were really difficult - we got blown away!

Exactly why is Katie not opening up again on court 18 after waiting around 7 hours all day yesterday to finish their match. Instead putting a 5 set mens match on before them. I just cant fathom the thinking here it really frustrates me.

Anyway, Im thinking positive today. Katie I hope has had time to reconsider the game plan and will get through, and either Heather or Jodie will be inspired on the big courts and take an upset

They do it for all the 'to be finished' matches, not just Katie's

George's will be after a men's five-setter, as is Brengle's. Some are after women's three-setters, some are after two women's matches. They never start play with a match that's held over. I think they feel it's not the right dynamics, and people would like a whole match (then maybe lunch?) and then a shortened one, and then another whole match

I just think its dangerous territory especially if there is consistent risks of showers throughout the upcoming days - there is the potential for players to be in the 3rd round whilst others have not completed their 1st rounds.

It would be more understandable if they were playing late and then it would be more difficult to start the delayed match first up the next day .

That doesnt apply here .

Yes, it's a good point but all the full matches they've put on first are first round matches. So there's no real difference between the full first round match and the 'to be finished' first round matches. Indeed, maybe best to get the full ones done first?

And yet Jodies 2nd match is first on Centre?

Yes, but they've got 69 first round matches to play today and only 18 second.

And of those 18 second round matchs, 16 of them are last on court - Jodie's is the only one first on, and Djoko's the only second match

So there's only 2 'anomaly' matches - all the other 85 matches are as you'd expect

Apparently Kasatkina was treated for a lower back issue during her first round match so thats something to factor in for her match against Burrage .
