Week 27/28 - Wimbledon Ladies, Great Britain Grass

It would be an enormously unfortunate twist of events if Jodie doesn't make top 100 simply by some incredible runs by the players around her. Surely they can't all make it! I think about 98-100 is likely to be last entry for US Open...

Today's order of play

Heather - Court 2, fourth match after Tsitsipas, Dan (to finish) and Kvitova
Sonay - Court 3, fifth match after Rune, Fritz (to finish), Sakkari, Zverev
Katie B - Court 18, first match at 11am

Looking at the forecast I cant see Heather or Sonay finishing today. Unless they move Heather to centre or court 1

Why does the BBC waste time talking about tennis when the matches have already started and we could be watching that?! So frustrating

Pretty intense opening. Katie saves a couple of break points, then batters the ball into submission to break from game point down.

*2-1

Missed a few short balls, probably mostly nerves.

Broken from *40-15, a poor forehand long at *40-30 she went for too much on. Did a good job saving the first break point, and the second, but goes the wrong way with the short forehand on the third and is passed.

Shouldn't have lost that game.

2-2*

Gavrilova certainly not playing like a qualifier . Her ranking understates how good she can play given she was a top 30 player before her injuries and she seems to getting every ball back . I have a bad feeling about this match !

Too many loose errors. Had half chances in that game but nets an ugly backhand and sends a forehand flying long.

*2-3

Needs to settle herself back down.

Yes, more Katie's fault than Daria's doing really

Katie needs to show some patience if she wants the win. Saville is a dogged competitor who gets everything back and currently Katie getting frustrated and hitting long or the net. Surely her team should have prepped her for this..Savilles game style is no surprise

Three really poor return errors make life so easy for Saville. Absolutely no pressure on her at all in that game. And now Katie has to serve to stay in it.

*4-5

Misses a sitter at *40-15, the pressure of knowing Saville chases everything down. But is a bit more patient on the next point and eventually the power draws an error.

5-5*

A couple of mistakes give Katie 30-30* but Saville plays an excellent point a then Katie makes another error.

*5-6

As you say, Paul, the returns of serve by Katie are really damaging her chances

It's not great....
