Wimbledon Ladies Qualifying

Just seen Jack Draper and Paul Jubb wandering round. Hopefully theyre helping each other to get through the frustration of injuries at this time of year (obvs no time of year is great!)

Oh and well done Lily. Didnt get here in time for her match but hoping to see some of the others.

Also irritated by Inverdale's remark to Lily that she "closed that out like a seasoned professional". Which is probably the most patronising way I can think of to respond to a good win.

Naiktha benefiting from Zavatska being pretty messy. Getting the basics right

4-3*

Emily has just broken *3-2

I had the pleasure of JB sitting a few seats from me along with Katie Obrian. He didn't stay long though as JI came round and called him away.

Watching Emily now - looking good today

Emily double faults on set point, nets a slice on the second. Good play to save break point, passed on third set point, a super point to save break point two, and finally takes it.

6-4 0-0*

Naiktha a break up in the second.

That was hard work for Emily, but some good rallies and she got there in the end.

Very tidy set from Naiktha, allowed Zavatska to go off the boil and took advantage but keeping steady.

4-6 6-2 *0-0

But breaks straight back and holds easily, so Emily is at 4-4* in the second set now.

Never thought much of Zhao's game so I'd really hope and expect Emily to take this chance.

Super Naiktha! Serves and volleys her way to a 4-6 6-2 6-3 win.

Executed the game she has very well today, deserved it.

Great win! I thought Zavatska was a good draw but I wasn't sure Naiktha would take advantage.

Emily went 3-0* in the tiebreak but was a bit tentative, and we're back on mini serve 4-4*.

Yeah and she finished with a couple of bad mistakes to lose the set

She's the better player but needs to reset now.

And the tiebreak slips away. Emily put off balance by Zhao throwing in some slower balls and junk shots, and - I think out of nerves - Emily came in on a couple of questionable approaches, with resultant volleys and half volleys going awry.

[WC] Emily Appleton GBR 6-4 6-7(4) *0-0 Carol Zhao CAN
