Week 25 - Wimbledon WC Play-offs, Grass

Naiktha, Eden, Anna and Emily App are all justifiable wildcards for the qualis

You'd think all four would get one (unless there's something very strange)

Quite. You've put your top four seeds, who would've been the top four picks, up to the test against all comers, and they've passed the test, job done.

I note that on the 'planned matches' tab, no Naiktha/Eden match is showing. Could be an error?

Its possible if there are 4 wildcards left they cancel the final round and award them. That has happened before. But we'll know if Anna v Emily takes to the court at some point!

Edit - never mind, Indy's post is gone.

Yes definitely looks like they aren't playing the final round.

Marcus famously did it.

But on the women's side I think you might need to go back to Karen Cross in 2001. She qualified and made the second round.

did we have the WC Play offs back in 2001?!

I think Dodrade was asking if anyone has navigated through from WC Play offs to then get through qualies themselves and into the main draw? I think of this like the FA Cup, these guys this week are the 700 or so non league teams that battle to get to round one and join the EFL 1 and 2 teams - those guys join next week and battle to get to the FA Cup 3rd round where the Premier League and Championship teams join in - lots of non league teams have got through to round 3 of the FA Cup and it would be great for one of these guys to match that!

In theory then someone could beat Emma's record and play more than 10 matches to win a Grand Slam?

Yes, Ana Bogdan being in the Eastborne Q draw is slightly different from it being Anna Brogan

 biggrin

I've done that before ....

Also, every time I see Jakub Paul in a draw, I get excited that it's Paul Jubb no

Sorry, I am just playing catch up here after being out all pm. Have they cancelled the womens final round then? And Anna Brogan got a walkover versus Marni Banks?

Think that was a good call. Looking very likely, no?

Otherwise the match after Dan Cox would have started by now, surely....

I wonder if Marni has a WC too as they'll be 5 left with Sonay now not in qualifying and that was why she didn't play?

Now that would be excellent (for her not being injured, more than anything)

But hadn't Marni withdrawn before we knew that the 4 semi finalists were going to be the 4 seeds, making it easier to pick them plus Marni if 5 Q WCs available? Sorry but I don't see her being awarded one at that earlier stage.

plus would it be fair on the other 3 QF losers? Or indeed on the validity of the whole process?

I'm looking at the player list on the Wimbledon website.
Naiktha, Emily A, Marni and Eden are all included, but not Anna (?? !!)
On the men's side I see Dan Cox but nor Stuart Parker.
The list might be in the process of updating though ......
