Week 25 - Wimbledon WC Play-offs, Grass

Marcus famously did it.

But on the women's side I think you might need to go back to Karen Cross in 2001. She qualified and made the second round.

did we have the WC Play offs back in 2001?!

I think Dodrade was asking if anyone has navigated through from WC Play offs to then get through qualies themselves and into the main draw? I think of this like the FA Cup, these guys this week are the 700 or so non league teams that battle to get to round one and join the EFL 1 and 2 teams - those guys join next week and battle to get to the FA Cup 3rd round where the Premier League and Championship teams join in - lots of non league teams have got through to round 3 of the FA Cup and it would be great for one of these guys to match that!

Yes pre-qualifying existed back then. Karen had basically retired after Wimbledon the year before, then came back for pre-qualies, got through that then qualifying proper.

I think pre-qualies at one stage had a 32 field, but could be misremembering.

Who is Ciara? And why did she get a wildcard in the first place? I see her junior career high isn't even the top 1,000 - seems rather random, unless I've again, completely missed something?

Ciara has always been a fav of mine.  Started out by being coached by Justin Sherring and now at Reed's, I believe.   Her father is an ex-England Rugby player.  Not one of those families who push, push, push their child into tennis at all.

I saw her play this spring at one of the Tour events

You can tell she definitely has good ball skills - it's a very 'neat' game she plays, doesn't take a lot of effort, as such - it seems to come quite easily.

Not the tallest or strongest in terms of physique, though.

I expect she's got quite a bit of upside

In the live scores page in the planned section it lists Anna against Emily. Looks like Anna might have got a walkover.

Which would be a real shame for Marni, and Amelia who lost to her!

Hope she is ok.

Lord, another one who can't put together three (or even two) matches on the trot..... cry

So many injuries for that girl.....

In France, under FFT rules, you can 're-fish' a player out  i.e. put Millie back in , if you're in QF stage or more, which we are,

I wonder if they can do that, or were tempted to

Ella came really close in her match with Eden. She was a break up in the 1st and got pegged back and taken to a tie break. She was a break up in the 2nd, Eden immediately broke back but Ella had three set points on Eden's service but couldn't take one. Eden won 7-6(1) 7-6(3)

Katy would have loved her to get the chance to play Wimbledon for likely one last time. But tennis doesn't work that way.

Naiktha through to play Eden.
