I would love Katy to come through. Based on what shes said I suspect this is her last year on tour and would be lovely to be able to go out with a go at Wimbledon.
That's a nice win for Ella - looks like it was a very close match
And Maia still has her MD wildcard into doubles, so she's got plenty to be excited about
Very pleased for Kart Dunne too - Ranah has a lot of potential but it's still pretty raw at the moment. And she has juniors to focus on.
Naiktha won a little easier than I'd expected, so good for her.
Emily App has beaten Mika easily which was pretty much a foregone conclusion
And, yep, nice for Anna but a shame for Beth....
Marni has taken the first set off Millie - which isn't a huge surprise but also doesn't really mean much - Marni plays brilliant when she's in the zone, but seems to have big trouble staying there. And Millie does the opposite - she's pegged back a lot of her opponents, and hung tough in three sets.
Basically noone here over the age of 21 is an LTA favourite! But is usually the case that the "journeywomen" beat the "bright young things" in this event, and largely happening again today.

I agree. But are there other 'journeywomen' whom you think should have got the nod over the 'bright young things' who were chosen?
It seems to me that nearly all our women are accounted for.
Dani Daley might have a decent claim. Just possibly Lauryn? But Emma Wilson is not playing, seemingly. And I can't see anyone else really who would have a good case that they should have had the call up over and above the youngsters. Unless I'm missing someone?

Yes very true. Any player in GB who is over the age of 21 and not in the Top 250 in the world is considered a no-hoper in the eyes of the LTA. Little do they seem to realize that these are the players who really want to continue to play for themselves rather than juniors who are often playing because Mummy and Daddy want them to! The example of Jo Konta seems to have passed the LTA by,
No absolutely not. That wasn't what I was suggesting, just making the point that in this event the more experienced girls tend to be the ones to make it through over the young talent.
It does also seem that there is a very short shelf life for those that the LTA/AELTC are willing to consider bright young things before they then too old for wildcards and told to make it on their own. There are years you would've considered Sam Murray a shoo-in for one of the spots but found herself in the playoff.
In Anna's case, despite a comparatively lofty ranking she is (according to Judy Murray's regular updates on her) doing it almost entirely on her own, despite only being in her mid-20s.
Anyway, only a couple of matches left...crunch time for Millie and Marni.
Marni takes it 7-4 in the tiebreak - good win. Shame for Millie that she had to play such a strong opponent in the first round.
Yes.... that was the real killer draw.... I'm pleased for Marni that she didn't bottle it, though.
And if Marni goes on to the make the final, and qualify, I don't see there's any problem with Millie getting a wildcard - it doesn't have to be the two semifinalists
