Week 25 - ITF W100 - Ilkley, Great Britain Grass

Interesting that Talia was on-site, highest Brit to not make it in, and not given a wild card.

Shame for Ranah. She didn't play great but was still in contention.

Mimi was super! Exposed a player who really wasn't comfortable on grass (and looked very unhappy to be having to play on it). Composed, strong, clever tennis. Great!

However less positive elsewhere at present:

(12) Arianne Hartono NED d. WC Ranah Akua Stoiber GBR 6-4 6-2

Maia Lumsden GBR 3-6 *3-5 (13) Maddison Inglis AUS

Super-duper win by Mimi

(PS Anyone looking at our players' mental fortitude should look at Ruzic: the match is reasonably close, Mimi is at the end, presumably all buzzy and nervous, on the edge of a huge win, and you - as Ruzic - need to make her serve for it, make her doubt - and instead you hit a double fault and two really poor UEs to go immediately 0-40 down, which now basically makes it easy - SUCH poor matchplay from Ruzic)

Thrilled for Mimi - some really nice forehands in that match - she deserved it

A couple of the players are playing their first event on grass this year, which is always encouraging (some have played hard before this, but Mimi's opponent has only played clay)

I agree, Paul - she was NOT happy, and didn't it show

I wonder if Anna has found out she wont be getting a Wimbledon QWC and will have to come through the play offs.

If that's the case even more reason to play here and get a competitive match on the surface! As long as Brits are out of Ilkley by sign-in for the playoffs on Wednesday they can compete here.

Mind you, she was 1-4 down in games, and fought really well to get in back level

(There was no livestream for a while so I didn't see the start but it came back halfway through)

Saves a set point herself to get into the tiebreak. Fighting hard.

Her face doesnt fit with your lot at the LTA so probably better to be ready for the play offs. Be interesting to see who is picked for the QWC this year.

Also good to see that Katy Dunne is fit and has confirmed she will be playing the play offs.

Is this not Mimis first event on the grass since RG juniors though? Well played Mimi. Sad Ranah didn't get through.

Anyone know where Isa is playing this week? Seemed to have lost track of her.
