Real shame, as Lacy had Bolsova on the ropes but it slips through her fingers. Bolsova profited from playing very passive tennis against someone who was nervous in the big moments and not comfortable enough yet to close down balls and finish points off further up the court.
Yep. That third set was 100% Isa's set.. Until it wasn't.
She made a couple of really poor errors at key times, which let Aliona off the hook, didn't make it difficult - you can't just hit two second serves straight out.
And she's not too good at the net (fine in the mid of the court, taking the ball out of the air, but gets in a real mess when she's nearer)
If that had been a juniors match, Isa would have won all day long
It reminds me of one of the pros, can't remember who now, who said it blew her mind when she moved up to adults how amazingly tenacious the players were - Aliona worked SO hard to stay in that, ran down every ball, attacked out of defense, she really played as though her life depended on it - which is pro tennis
Em and Tamara play a much better second set, but lose both deuce points and go out 6-0 6-4. I'm not convinced we'll see Emily on the grass again which feels a little sad (although to be fair I've said that a few times over the past 8 years!).
The youngsters lose 6-2 6-3.

Sonay's 5th straight sets top 200 victim during the last 3 weeks. Jacquemot at WR 187 is the lowest ranked of these.
Sonay seems to be rapidly improving on grass, hopefully she can make it through Wimbledon qualifying after failing to make the most of her MD WC last year.
Sonay has slidden quickly down the rankings (mainly due to points off and some poor form) but is quite capable of getting back into the top 200 and pushing on. She has covered almost all of her points off for the time being and should now be able to make real progress. I'm not sure the change of surface is significant - she is now playing so much better than she was before. Whatever the reason is - good luck to her.
