Week 24 - WTA250 Nottingham, UK - Grass

So pleased for Millie
Partly coz we'll have a proud mum on the forum
But also coz she was so close to beating Kempen and couldn't quite make it

A very tense final game. Misses 3 match points, saves a break point. Gets it!

Well done!!

Wow, well done Em! What a day :)

In case Dan's not keeping track, I make that 31 singles wins so far on the grass for the women, versus 15 for the men ;) Best get to work boys!

Sorry for stupid question time, but is that:

12 points for all the QR1 wins today, and 18 points if they win the next round?

Thats a great effort from the girls again especially Emily Appleton. She is a tour trooper and just keeps playing. Im glad shes still going for singles in the main. Shes far too young to give up there. New career high into the 300s now as well. QWC for Wimbledon shout now surely to help boost the finances for a real crack at it second half of year should be the reward.

Correct. And the main draw is 30 for a first round win.

Last season the women got a total of 74 wins and the men 228 I believe it was. The women are almost half way to that so far, the men have a long way to go!

The men will end up with more due to the two ITF M25 events in July on grass, but nonetheless, impressive start by the women.

Our women should just ditch clay completely , play on hard or carpet courts through the April and May period and hit the grass running. Clay is for potters.
