Maybe its the way I worded it - the 10 highest ranked players currently on WTA rankings to have never reached a WTA semi. Katie was 7th highest ranked and Jodie 9th. Approximately 120 or so of the other top 126 or 131 have made a WTA semifinal in their careers so far. Which is quite amazing but true.

If heather can take this, she'll have beaten two Wimbledon quarter finalists and one semi finalist in one week - surely locking down her wildcard.

Fwiw , Jodie is the 6th highest ranked player currently without a win in a slam.

Golubic wins a long tense game, although Heather didn't have any break points it feels like it was a big one.

7-5 *4-5

And she does close it this time. Another 3 MPs and she takes it on the second.

Some crossed words at the net - Harriet annoyed with something Katie does that was "unprofessional". Anyone catch what it was?

Katie Boulter GBR d. Harriet Dart GBR 6-3 7-5

It was to do with Boulter tapping her temple with the index finger at the moment of victory, as if to say "I won that by being smarter" or at least that's how the gesture could be interpreted. I know Boulter probably didn't mean it that way, but it was a bit adversarial, especially between fellow Brits who have competed together at the national level. Boulter said in reply she does that every match, and it's probably directed more at her team. Still, a match between the two top Brits isn't just any match, and I think when the heat of the moment has passed she will reflect on it, and perhaps have a word with Dart. Dart also had a MTO during the match and Boulter might have considered that too. It's about respect, and yes Harriet has a point about it being a bit unprofessional conduct.

QF:- Alicia Barnett (GBR) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR150 (74+76) def Asia Muhammad (USA) Giuliana Olmos (MEX) CR 52 (36+16) [2] 6-3 6-2

SF:- Alicia Barnett (GBR) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR150 (74+76) v Harriet Dart (GBR) / Heather Watson (GBR) CR432 (108+324) [WC]

A rerun of their first round match at Surbiton, although this should be much, much closer as Harriet and Heather have found some form and confidence.

Holy smokes. Two of the best points I've seen Heather play in a long time to break. That one at 30-15* was sensational.

*6-5

Two big serves for *30-0. A shaky second serve and a fairly wild error for *30-30.

Golubic takes a big swing at a fairly weak second serve and it lands miles wide. Match point...

Ooof. Heather serves an ace, called out. Overruled. Was definitely in.

Win!! Lovely smile. I like it when she has Diego V back in her corner!

I wanted Heather to show some form before being handed a MDWC. For me, she has done enough now to justify it.

Yep - I saw it in too - I think everyone did really - just such angles and penetration on some of those ground shots - where were all Hev's normal pushy shots???

Super
