I cannot see Jodie having a chance if she is gifting her opponent several points a game with weird errors. Whilst she is also producing the best one or two points each game, it gives you a constant uphill battle.

A horror backhand volley takes Jodie down *15-40, she gets back to game point, misses it, saves another break point, escapes.

All that hard work and she gives Martincova a complete breather by just stringing return errors over and over.

Holds from *15-30. This forehand is schizophrenic, miles long ok easy balls, tentative taps putting her in trouble, screaming winners. Bonkers.

A gutsy if erratic performance from the British no 3 to reach a tiebreak. The constant undermining of her chances by 12 double faults and missed forehands made this a hard watch for me, although I suppose the sweltering conditions might have had something to do with that.

Well done that girl!!

She stays strong in the breaker. Absolutely zero confidence in the forehand but she doesn't overpress it and works the ball. She's through. Just.
