Week 24 - WTA250 Nottingham, UK - Grass

Its a shame, but if a few extra do have to go through qualifying - we will have plenty who are capable. If its only 5 wildcards, I think it will be Sonay and Lily, both of which I think could do it.

Well done Heather. Nice straight sets victory to reach rd2. Three wins if you count her qualifying matches.

Been a major incident in Nottingham this morning with at least 3 dead.

Not sure where ground is whether near town centre but you would think it will be affected.

Needless double faults from Harriet hand Marino one of the breaks back.

3-1*

Silly. No need to give the Canadian a foothold in the set she doesn't deserve based on the early exchanges.

But that's why you break twice. Rest of set goes by with both players largely untroubled on serve, so Harriet leads 6-4 0-0*

Jodie underway. *1-2

That was great from Harriet. Defended well, moved well, some nice serves, some good aggressive hitting at the right moments.

Wins 6-4 6-2

To be fair it was Marino's first match on grass this year and it showed, she will give Harriet a much harder match than this when she finds her range.

Jodie going for my blood pressure as *5-1 becomes *5-5 in the tiebreak.

She gets a slice of good fortune when Martincova creeps just long, then goes big on the return to the feet and just keeps it in, and gets the reward.

7-6(5) *0-0

Burrage takes first set in a match of much higher quality than the Dart one.

Starts the second with a horror game to be broken, but saves 6 break points next time to stay in touch.

1-2*

She is so often her own worst enemy when it comes to losing momentum!
