That was a real shocker from Sonay. Very poor against an average opponent (for this level, it's all comparative!). Disappointing given the opportunity. Frech would be a great draw at Wimbledon.
Frustrating as she took out two players of arguably higher calibre in qualies.
Others know far more than me but I don't see any real sense of improvement from 12 months ago? I don't really see the justification for a Wimbledon wild card when she's about to drop outside the top 300 (barring a good run in Ilkley/Brum next week).
Heather missed a couple of break points in the opening game but got it next time to get on the board. *1-2

Overall I agree with you
But I do think it works to Sonay's disadvantage that she's such an undemonstrative player, she looks as though she's barely trying, or barely cares. Which I think is just her demeanour.
However, net net, yes, highly frustrating.
I don't think she's really in line for a main draw wildcard anyway, though, is she?
From what I understand we've only got 4 to give out, and with Katie S and Katie B and Heather all out of Ilkley (which implies they've got the nod), there's one left which has to be Harriet or Jodie
Not sure Ilkley tells us much CD - Wimbledon qualifying is the week after it? Katie S is entered for the WTA 125 on grass in Italy, and presumably Katie B and Hev are just going to Birmingham?

Yes, I guess you're right
But would they go to Birmingham if they didn't know they had a wildcard? i.e. would you roll the dice and not try and secure a wildcard at Ilkely?
I'd prefer to see Katie S / B, Jodie, Harriet get the WC ahead of Heather but Heather made R4 last year and could get a few decent wins this grass season (it's always the case with Hev when she is in a slump to ring a random run together).

So Sonay's not in the reckoning....
Burrage, Miyazaki, and Kartal might be asked to qualify. Swan had to do that in 2021, and in doing so gained a massive confidence boost. Dart seems likely to get the WC, having been the leader of the GB Fed Cup campaigns for the last 18months.

Is Fran Jones completely out injured too?
Its widely assumed that Venus and Svitolina will have WCs, as will Wickmayer for winning Surbiton. 1 will be reserved for a grass winner in the final week. That leaves 4 initial WCs for GB women.
Is it too late for Svitolina to use her PR ranking instead of a wild card? Shes already ranked in the top 80 (incredible) so shouldnt be worrying about using up her PR entries
You've got to squeeze Katie S, Katie B, Hev, Harriet, Jodie, Lily into four spaces - that's a tough ask - and certainly wouldn't seem to leave any room for someone like Sonay
I assume Sonay is into qualis as of right? From the old rankings? Sorry, I didn't keep notes...

No, Sonay is about 60 places off qualifying and needs a WC. Lily only just made it into qualifying by about 6 or 7 places.
