Week 24 - ATP Challenger 125 - Rothesay Open - Nottingham, Great Britain (grass)

The LTA entry list is available here.  Liam Broady, Jan Choinski & Dan Evans are the Brits so far confirmed in the main draw, Dan with a wild card & the likely top seed.  According to Darts, Ryan is five out, but will join Billy Harris & Dan Cox in qualies if he doesn't make it (or doesn't land a WC).  Aidan McHugh tops the list of qualies ALTs, which may be why he withdrew from the San Diego M15 yesterday.  Plenty of other Brits on that list:  Charlie Broom, Arthur Féry, Stuart Parker, Giles Hussey, Jay Clarke, Toby Samuel, Mark Whitehouse AND the first sighting of Kyle Edmund.

So Henry Patten is clearly not ready to play yet after his Surbiton withdrawal with a lower back problem. Hope it clears up enough quickly to see him back with Julian.

Andy has a Wild Card, makes sense to stay here and get some easy points as Stuggart is a stacked field.

Stuttgart is probably as strong or stronger than queens will be- 7 of top 20 is almost unheard of at 250 level. Queens has 8 of the top 20.

I see Feliciano Lopez has a Wild Card to both Stuggart and Mallorca but not Halle which perhaps suggests he will get one for Queens as a former champion, in his final year on tour.

That would make sense and he would certainly have a lot of fans supporting him.

Well, three of those QWCs were definitely 'earned' ones - no one can complain

Mark, Harry and JoMo played some really good grass court tennis, and 100% deserve another go

Toby was more off the pace

Seems slightly strange to me that Anton is not putting himself forward for a grasscourt wildcard (or has put himself forward and been rejected). Or maybe he'll get Ilkley and it's being shared out.

And, of course, I'm thrilled that Arthur and George have main draw ones - bit of a trial by fire for George - with no warm-up event. But they're both faves of mine and would be the sort of ones I'd pick too.

No Dan Evans in the Main Draw, he has disappeared from the entry list. Maybe a niggle from this week, not a good start to the grass for Dan.

As I reported on the Surbiton thread the other day:

Extract from the end of Elgan Alderman's report in The Times on Jack Draper's continuing injury woes, which will cause him to miss the entire grass court season (link to it in the relevant individual player forum):

There was further bad news for the British men at the Surbiton Trophy where Evans, the No 1 seed, lost in the second round against Gabriel Diallo. The 21-year-old from Canada, who is ranked No 146 in the world, is 6ft 8in and used all that to his advantage in a 7-5, 6-2 win. "I didn't serve well, difficult conditions, it was very windy," Evans said. "Then on top, he's obviously going to be a very good tennis player, already is, and I don't know what he served, but he served amazingly well."

Evans said he would play at The Queen's Club, but had not decided on other tournaments such as Nottingham next week. "It's difficult to keep playing," he said. "There's not much to be gained really apart from people are just having a crack at you and that's difficult, as we saw today. He played some free-swinging tennis and that was too good. And he was better than me. That's the bottom line. He was better today."

Is Kyle injured. He's not getting any WC even into qualies?
