Week 23 - ITF W100 - Surbiton, Great Britain Grass

Millie played a very good first set, recovered from 2-5 down in the tiebreak to get a set point, but couldn't take it and lost it.

6-7(6) 0-0*

Hope she can hang on early in this second set and not let it run away. She's doing a lot of good things.

Yup she's got a big game for grass too - the serve is very effective and she's getting good success with 1-2 combos.

It's 3-3 in the second set - Millie was a break up but was broken back, and then lost 3 BPs at 0-40 on the Parnaby serve...so it's very tight indeed.

Also Alice having a torrid time of it against Urszula Radwanska - currently 0-6 0-2 down after just 35 minutes.

Great effort from Millie to recover from 0-30 down to close out the set. Great serving.

The missing players are Sam M-S who isn't playing as she has had a baby, and Beth who is in Portugal and only played doubles last week for the first time this year.

The odd one out is Katie Swan who has a very low doubles ranking for her ability.

Millie will serve for the match, leading *5-2 in the final set.

Somehow, despite losing the first nine games very speedily, Alice ground her way back into her match and has remarkably taken the second set against Radwanska, 6-4.

I have no idea how Alice turned that around. But I do understand why Ula is still ranked where she is...

Millie got the win, looks like she figured grass out as the match wore on.

Order of play is out for tomorrow (with a few blanks for the matches not yet completed today). No women on Centre Court where Andy plays later, so my ground pass is good for the matches I paricularly want to see, namely EWS, Millie, Isabelle and the GB doubles face-off. (plus any of the others in between)

Jeezo Alice!!

I was worried she'd missed the boat when she let 3 break points go begging at 3-3*, but she dug in, and got the break at *4-4.

She was SO nervous serving it out, but Ula was tight too. I think the only ball she actually hit through the entire game was her serve on break point down.

But a couple of errors from Ula get her over the line. Fantastic!!
