Good player Musetti. Will give Alcaraz a battle

Norrie was poor , far too passive and allowing Musetti to dictate .

Being best we have doesn't mean you can't give a critical opinion

It wasn't good....

indeed. This is a tennis discussion forum. Cam has done tremendously well to get to where he is in the game but yesterday he was very far from his best as he indicated himself..

Yes. The Us are doing quite well in the women

But the men is pretty dire

Not quite as dire as the French, of course...... but still....

I always like looking at the last 16 - I think it gives a better indication of where tennis is at, rather than the final, say. or even the semis

Last 16 2023 RG:

Italy: 2
Argentina: 2
Germany: 1
Spain: 1
Greece: 1
Austria: 1
Japan: 1
Russia: 1
Serbia: 1
Bulgaria: 1
Chile: 1
Peru: 1
Denmark: 1
Norway: 1

There's a nice country split there - and a nice continent split too - 4 from South America is high (even for clay)
But the USA: 0 and France: 0 is rather jarring

It is also a REALLY young group

Djoko at 36 obviously is the outlier. And Dimitrov is 32. But no other 30+ players (none aged 29, and only one aged 28)

There are two who've only just turned 20. Seven who are under 25.

The average age is 25.8

Hi CD - thanks for these summaries, I like when you do them. Do you keep records? I wondered what the age and country split trajectory looked like compared to past slams/years if you kept any notes?

According to the scoreboard Djokovic & Alcaraz are due to play in successive matches on court Philippe-Chatrier so it will be interesting to compare the two this afternoon.

Whether there's any UK involvement or not this is tennis history - we are living through tennis history potentially as Novak goes for Grand Slam no 23.

Yes, could be true history for Djokovic. All the worst to him.

Novak looking like the perfect tennis machine as he dismantles Juan Varillas. If you are looking for deterioration in Novak's skill-set at age 36 after season upon season of the intense physical demands that he asks of himself then you'll see no evidence of it in this fourth round match.

Novak isn't a great watch it's true, but he doesn't need to be to make history.

Now to compare and contrast with the Alcaraz match and wonder when will it happen, when will the point be reached where the Alcaraz ascent overtakes the Novak descent.
