You would think that Katie B and Jodie should have guaranteed a place by the Nottingham 250 results.

It would be pretty astounding if all and all these 2 haven't now secured 2 of the WCs.
In a way I'll be very pleased for Jodie, because I had a nagging feeling in the back of my mind, maybe quite wrong, that if push came to shove she might be the one to drop from a very tight 4 out of 5 decision.

Wheres the big guns? Seems pretty weak show of WTA big hitters - no Coco? Maybe they are saving themselves for Eastbourne?
Theres a big 500 event in Berlin this week, most players are over there
Oh that explains it thank you - I was looking at the Eastbourne entry list and it looked loaded in the womans draw (and thats not because we have tickets lol). Ons Pegula Coco Rybakina !!! Lets see how the Brits do there - will be a good test.

I'm not saying the Brits didn't play well in Nottingham, but some of the seeds didn't put up much of a fight. Linette for example was very poor and it seemed like she couldn't get off the court quickly enough, and Sakkari was all power and little finesse in the match against Cornet. The grass courts looked wonderful, but only a few of the non-Brits seemed to really enjoy playing on it. I wonder whether the grass court has lost some of it's appeal amongst the modern tennis pro's.

I'm a bit confused though, whoever wins Nottingham tomorrow, won't they have a high enough ranking to get into Wimbledon by right, or has the cut off already been and gone?

It's long gone. It was around the 22nd May for the cut off. All tourb level tournaments, and I assume the lower level ones have entry dates 6 weeks before the tournament starts. The only thing that can be effected are seedings and WC opportunities.

Its only grand slams that are 6 weeks now. Tour level was changed to 4 weeks during the pandemic and has been kept at that.
I'm sure the AELTC haven't backed themselves into a corner where they have to give Surbiton, Ilkley or any other grass winner a WC. I'm sure it's more of an unwritten convention, or if it is written anywhere it is suitably caveated with, for example, "if places are available after all other WCs are awarded" or "at the committee's discretion". I do expect they'll be considered alongside the others on their shortlist, but I'm reasonably confident all 5 of our ladies will get a WC as I don't really think there is a compelling reason to discount any of them and they'll generate more interest for the organisers than Ilkley or Surbiton winners would. But, as with others, if any were to miss out it would, for me, be Harriet. I'm not sure if playing Jodie in Birmingham is good for Harriet's chances or not. Would beating Jodie carry the same weight as beating a top player that is directly in the draw?
Boulter will have WC for being top 100, having a ranking higher than the direct entry cut off, performance over the last 2 weeks and, if she wins today, being GB#1 Jodie will have a WC for performance this week, only just missing out on a direct acceptance and taking into account injury at beginning of May prevented her from possibly getting the necessary points that would have given her a DA, and if she wins today, being top 100 and GB #1 Heather will have a WC because she is still the best known and most popular GB woman, bar Emma, and for her career best performance last year without reward (in terms of ranking pts). Her grass performance this year has been mixed, but this week should put aside any concerns from narrowly losing to a qualifier in Surbiton. Swan should have a WC for reaching the final in Surbiton and I'm fairly sure it was only illness that caused her loss to Cornet this week. And as I was reminded of, having forgotten, she put in some great performances for GB in the United Cup. Dart, hasn't reached the rounds the others have, but to be fair, she lost to the top seed in Surbiton (which is slightly negated as a mitigating circumstance when Swan beat the top seed in the next round) and lost to the finalist in Nottingham. But in her favour are the performances she has put in for GB at the BJK cup and United Cup.
Qualifying remains intriguing as Eden, Emily and Millie have brought themselves into the mix and while everyone on here would discount Naiktha, I don't think you can given she has a similar ranking to Sonay, and surely Sonay is a shoo-in. The 4 juniors that are qWC in Ilkley are all in contention and how they do today may determine which of them get a LTA recommendation that goes to the selection committee. So after Sonay, Isabelle and the 2 reserved for the play-offs there are probably 8 fighting for the remaining 5 places. My guess would be Millie, at least 1 of Eden or Emily, and at least 2 of the juniors in Ilkley leaving 1 other from any of them.

To back up Lambdas comments, the only statement I can find re wildcards from is on their website - the key words being discretion, usually, past performance and British interest.
About wild cards at The Championships
Click here to view wild cards for The Championships 2022.
Wild cards are players whose world ranking is not high enough to qualify automatically for The Championships but who are accepted into the main Championships draw at the discretion of the Committee.
Wild cards are usually offered on the basis of past performance at Wimbledon or to increase British interest. Wild cards have been allocated since 1977 and from 2003 some singles wild cards have been determined by competition.
