Andy isn't practically retired though. There's a definite difference between Andy and Feli Lopez & Venus for example.

No I agree, I meant in the future, not now. I don't think he'd do it anyway. i think once he's hardly playing any more, he'll just retire.

I'd be more sympathetic towards Wimby awarding Venus a WC, if the US Open hadn't been so partisan in cherry-picking all the US players from the alternates list for qualies, when there were far better international players to choose instead.

As it is I don't think Venus deserves a WC, as she has hardly played much.

Re. Swan not being available for the BJK Finals : There were two team GB competitions in the space of a month or so. Swan was pencilled in for the second, The United Cup in Sydney, and she proved to be the wrecking ball behind Team GB's success. (yes, I know Cam won his matches, but Swan was competing as the #2 woman in the squad and was very close to winning all three of her matches).

In Surbiton, Burrage was beaten by Miyazaki in three sets, who in turn was completely outplayed by Swan. I know Jodie was coming back from injury, though, and her GB#2 ranking was well-earned.

It's interesting, all 5 of the GB women have a case for inclusion in the MD, so I think they should be in it.

I agree with this except I don't agree with players who are practically retired getting WCs to prestigious events like GSs just because they had illustrious former careers, even if that means GB players like Andy not getting into overseas GSs.

Andy is totally different. Not far off from top 40 and will no longer need a wild card for most events

Venus is a bigger name than most players will ever be. Watch Pointless and none  tennis  fans have heard of the Williams sisters. However taking the information from Tennis Abstract  starting at the Australia Open of 2021 Venus has  only won 3 matches and lost 14. She won  her 1st round match at Wimbledon 2021 and since then has won 1 and lost 8. The only player she  has beaten since then is the appropriately named Miss Volynets.

The legends tournament is there for Venus and would give ground pass holders the opportunity to see her.  I think Venus literally has nothing else to do in her life that gives her as much enjoyment as Tennis but being a shadow of the player she was must get depressing at some point and she would have fun playing in the legends.

Someone just needs to be brave enough to tell her to stop entering the high level tournaments.

Just putting the other side though, if Wimbledon and other tournaments keep offering her wildcards, why shouldn't she play? Why is the onus on her?

If legends is where she should be, then why don't the AELTC say that to her? I guess they don't agree....

I have zero problem with Venus getting a wildcard. All wildcards are 'unfair', that's the nature of them. Her shout is as good, if not better, as some woman ranked 250, say, who gets one because she happens to be the same nationality as the event itself.

On the other hand, I won't be at all upset if she doesn't get one smile

Is it in their power to refuse a GS champion?

It must be or else Virginia Wade could insist on one, and Steffi, and every other one ....

The rules are there are no rules - Wimbledon organisers choose whichever wildcards they want using their own criteria. No-one knows what the criteria is, no-one will discuss what is said on the wildcard committee or even how many people are on the committee to make the decision.

This stops negative stories about decision making leaking out to journalists who would have a field day if they knew what was being discussed and by whom, but on the other hand it means like I say that the rules are there are no rules. They do exactly what they want and no-one is able to tell them different.

Theres 4 non Brits outside of the main draw for Wimbledon in the quarter finals in the s-Hertogenbosch and 2 in Nottingham.

With Tim Van Rijthoven being awarded a wild card for winning s-Hertogenbosch last year any of these six winning the tournament would be equivalent.

Would be interesting to see what happens if someone just got to the final, as that should be considered better than winning a 100K.

Viktoria Hruncakova is the sole remaining player from this group, plays top seed Veronika Kudermetova in s-Hertongbosch.

Someone said somewhere that perhaps the amazing performances are due to 5 girls having to play up and compete for 4 wildcard spaces....... no idea if it's true ..... but it's highly conincidental....

I'm almost certain Harriet has a WC. She hasn't had a WC for any of the other tournaments so far, the only 2 left are Eastbourne which is the same week as Wimbledon qualifying and Wimbledon. There is no way she would go through the entire British grass court season without atleast 1 WC if needed.

You would think that Katie B and Jodie should have guaranteed a place by the Nottingham 250 results.

Hruncakova lost.

Personally I think Venus will have to show some form in Birmingham to get a WC.
