Boys & Girls: J500 Milan, Italy, clay (Week 21)

The Trofeo Bonfiglio has been in existence since 1959 but you have to go back to the 1960s for a British singles winner, and there have been none in the boys.  We have a quintet of players here trying to remedy that stat. The draws have not been particularly kind, with 3 our of 4 unseeded players drawing seeds  Live scores are available here

Boys R1 (L64)

Charlie Robertson v (7) Oliver Ojakaar (EST)

(13) Alejandro Melero Kretzer (ESP) v Henry Searle

Girls R1 (L64)

Hannah Klugman v (WC) Gaia Maduzzi (ITA)

(9) Tereza Valentova (CZE) v Hephzibah Oluwadare

(7) Ella McDonald v Mia Slama (USA)

(9) Tereza Valentova (CZE) def. Hephzibah Oluwadare 7-6(0) 6-4

That was as good as it got in round 1. Unfortunately Ella blew a 5*-2 lead in set 1, and lost out eventually in 2 tiebreaks, sandwiching a bagel to continue her losing run in ITFs (Pro/Junior) since January. Charlie and Henry team up in doubles, while the girls have each chosen to play with non-British partners

Boys R1 (L64)

(7) Oliver Ojakaar (EST) d. Charlie Robertson 6-2 6-3
(13) Alejandro Melero Kretzer (ESP) d. Henry Searle 6-4 6-4

Girls R1 (L64)

Hannah Klugman d. (WC) Gaia Maduzzi (ITA) 3-6 6-2 6-1
(9) Tereza Valentova (CZE) d. Hephzibah Oluwadare 7-6(0) 6-4
Mia Slama (USA) d. (7) Ella McDonald 7-6(2) 0-6 7-6(3)

R2

Weronika Ewald (POL) v Hannah Klugman

Wonder if it was a genuine injury or hurt pride, young Hannah has had older players default before when getting battered.

Girls R3

Hannah Klugman lost to (8) Kaitlin Quevedo (USA) 3-6 2-6

As David says, Kaitlin is a very good player on clay, with a proven track record, and age 17

A good showing from Hannah this week, and doubles still going....
