Week 19 - ITF W60 Fukuoka, Japan Carpet

I think Liang is a terrific competitor, and from looking at the stats - katie was very much pushed rather than sloppy. She was only broken once.heres hoping she can recover quickly

This has been a good tournament for our women in recent years. Katie won this tournament in 2018 and Heather won it the last time it was held in 2019. Can Katie retake the title and make it 3 consecutive British winners?

no less than 6 entrants in 2018;

I watched the last few games of the first set of Katys semi-final. To be honest she was pretty rubbish and Emina the far more consistent player. Very surprised and pleased that she turned it round. See Emina play though made me think about poor Tara - must be so hard for her still unable to play.

Personally I think it's been really good scheduling for Katie. OK she may not have any clay court prep but looking at the bigger picture, adding these points on now will see her into tournaments more suited to her further down the road. I wish Harriet had forsaken a couple of the higher level tournaments for some of these itf tournaments but equally one of the most admirable things about Harriet is that desire to play the big tournaments.

 Agreed. It looks like 7 or 8 years back a , pre Covid, a host of our girls like Heather, Laura, Gabi Taylor played this circuit en masse.

Hopefully 1 better than last time. Assume she will still go to French open for qualifying even though shes had little prep on Clay.

To get £14,000 just for turning up, I'm sure she will. As she isn't on an LTA programme any more every source of income will be welcome.

 I do worry she's bound to be exhausted and/or injured by now.

A shame there are so few carpet tournaments these days given the fast conditions generally suit our girls.

 From what I can see, Katie gave a walkover cry
