No disrespect to Freya - I'm delighted she has made the most of her lucky loser spot - but I can't help feeling it's a bit worrying that Katie lost this match and I wonder if she's still having problems with her shoulder?
I agree, it is worrying. The confidence seems to have disappeared lately. Things can turn around though, and there's bound to be dips in form especially when results aren't positive. Perhaps this clay court season is just about maintaining fitness now, ahead of the grass season, she's not having to defend many points?
R2: CHRISTIE, Freya (GBR) LL 459 (CH=286 2016) v STEPHENS, Sloane (USA) (1) 48 (CH=3 2018)
R2: BURRAGE, Jodie (GBR) 110 (CH=108 2023) v MINNEN, Greet (BEL) 173 (CH=69 2021)
They met at Croissy-Beaubourg earlier this year with Jodie winning in three.
Greet Minnen next for Jodie who she has beaten this year.
And a win for Jodie will make her British Number One
Think that will put extra pressure on!! Even though she is one of my favorite players I can't say I could see her getting to British number 1. Lets hope she can get the win tomorrow.
Emily and Nigina lost 6-1 7-6(3). Served for the second set at *5-3 but broken to 15. Only saw the opening few games which were not good, so clearly settled into the match but couldn't quite turn it round.

Jodie will need to reach the QF to be the new British #1, and she will need to reach the final to continue our 15 year run (since 19 May 2008) of having a woman in the top 100. There's a very small chance reaching the SF might be enough if other results go her way.

Whats the current run on the mens side?
Looking at players' ATP ranking histories ( and counting Greg Rusedski as representing GB from 27/05/95 ) we would appear to have at least one man in the top 100 for over 29 years - ie. since 25/04/94 when Jeremy Bates entered the top 100 ( he had previously been in the top 100 in late 1993 and early 1994 ).
Greg first entered the top 100 on 18/10/93 and that would be the date if his pre GB time counted.
