I thought Jodie played a lot of good tennis, plenty of winners and a fair amount of horrible shots too. First set was aces, brutal return winners off 1st serves and some of the worst play on set point that I've seen for a long time; only took her 7 extremely nervous set points, including 2 dfs, 3 awful errors on her first groundstroke after her serve and one set point saved by good play from VM before eventually Rosa's rubbish return off a 2nd serve landed long.
Movement didn't seem great, VM seemed to control the longer rallies. First serve percentage could have been better. At times Jodie was surprisingly passive. One lovely drop shot winner, one that VM that put away for a winner and another attempt that failed to make it over the net, one point that required a couple of overheads to finish and a forehand drive volley winner. If anything, Jodie played better after her 2nd serve than her 1st.
Too often 40-15 on serve turned into a long game, sometimes requiring Jodie to save bps. Thankfully, Jodie played a confident service game to hold to love for 5-1* in the 2nd set and contributed a couple of forehand winners to reach match point, Rosa's backhand error long for the win.
Anyway, 6-3 6-1 is an impressive score line.

I agree - Jodie didn't look that confident in the first set but improved as the match went on. Quite a few shots into the top of the net, but some great winners.
Have to say I'm surprised by that result. Her opponent seemed to prefer clay and Jodie has previously struggled on this surface. Can't really expect her to get through to the main draw but I didn't expect her to win this either! Maybe play Emma in the first round!!!

She did beat Errani only a couple of weeks ago... but you'd expect Errani to win routinely on clay. Here's hoping though, nice to see Jodie try a bigger level on a surface she's not comfortable on.
How far away is she pointswise from the top 100 now?
Considering her experience on the surface and the calibre of clay court opponent, I thought that was incredibly well fought. Shes always going to make errors, even more so on clay, but balanced it pretty well. Surprisingly not getting a huge number of return winners
