Week 16 - ITF W25 - Nottingham, GB Hard

I think we all agree that Hannah is special and if she stays fit her career high will undoubtedly surpass anything Katy's likely to achieve. The result of this match is most unlikely to affect her future development. However Katy is a long term favourite who has had a tough few years with injury and it's lovely to see her back on court again. The result of this match could definitely affect how her season progresses as a good run in these 3 weeks in Nottingham could put her in a position to get one or two WCs in the grass court season which she would love, so I for one would be very happy if she won today. I don't think she's doing too much wrong here, but Hannah is looking very strong so I think it will be hard for Katy to get a result.

Not sure why so many are rooting for a 28 year old journey woman. Hannah *could* be really special, whereas sadly Katy is unlikely to progress too much more. So a Hannah win would be my preference

I'm 100% rooting for Hannah - but it doesn't have to be in this match

And if Hannah is playing Aldershot next week, it's a lot of tennis

And she'll win plenty, plenty of matches - she's a complete natural - her bodyshape when she hits the ball is just wonderful

But today, maybe it would just be nice for Katy to win.....

(Like Indy, I have a tiddly wager on Hannah - I had a 'biggie' on Tuesday (well, biggie for me), a really tiddly one yesterday coz the odds were awful and a 50p-er today. But if I had the power to choose a winner, I'd choose Katy, coz of all the bad luck with injury she's had. But - again - glad we don't get to choose)

Think thats harsh on a girl that won a W60 and then been injured for as long as Katy has. Like everyone I hope that Hannah goes a long way, just want Katy to win this match

Have to say though, this is the first time I've seen Hannah and she does look a bit special!!

Some very good hitting from Katy to close out the second set.

Good match this. Seeing Hannah compete against seniors just hitting home the potential that's obvious in her junior matches.

Katy breaks at the start of the third set but Hannah breaks straight back.

1-1

Hannah really has an impressively solid game for her age - she's got a great, deep ground game, can come to the net, slices, dropshots!

Tiebreak is tight too:

Klugman 6-3 3-6 6-6 (4-5*) Dunne

As close as can be - and a great match.

EDIT: Corrected inverted scoreline.

Absolutely. Super match. Super level. Hannah was within spitting distance in the tie-break.
But I'm really pleased for Katy. Lovely to see her back. And moving so well.

Yes indeed I thought it was a great match and the hitting in the tie break was so impressive from them both. It really could have gone either way.

Watched most of the final set and really enjoyed it. Good level and if she stays injury free then Hannah is a real prospect. Really pleased for Katy and you could see that it meant a lot to her as well

Yes, it was good, and Katy was the slightly better player in the later stages.

Katy and 3 girls with names beginning with A in the semis.

I want to call it the Special KAAA (with a nod to the late Terry Hall) but that would be a lame attempt.
