Gosh, that was hard watching for the faithful

Two set points came and went in the main part of the set

Then another on his serve in the tie-break

All so VERY nip and tuck

But finally Kyle takes the first set 7-6(5)

Don't think the other guy is going to go away though - he doesn't look the type....

First set to Kyle on a TB. I have only dipped in and out briefly but it all looks like a struggle.

He's 4-0 up in the second, so looking good now.

The second set looks to have been plainer sailing than the first!  wink   I hope that's blown a few cobwebs away.

Small steps but he got the win which is what he needs right now to slowly rebuild his game.

Nice match.

Clay has never really been Kyle's strong point - but very nice for his knee and for tennis practice

Great to see him at least clock up a two-set win

Pretty sure that in the early stages of his career, most would have said that clay was his best surface.

I didn't say 'everyone' CD biggrinbiggrin

Seriously though, when he was 17/18yo and coming up through the rankings, there was a deliberate strategy for him to play on clay and I think it was where he was at his most comfortable at that stage of his career.  I know that Beechy thought it was his best surface back then.

He certainly has a respectable record at Roland-Garros, reaching the third round in 2017 & 2018.
