As last year the under 16 and under 18 Nationals are being held in early April - but in a reversal this time the under 16s are first. Qualifying starts tomorrow with the qualifying draw available here
I have edited the prize list, removing the W25 prize which is obviously only applicable to the U16 girls' winner As there is no equivalent for the boys none of the prizes will be relevant to Oliver Bonding if he wins (the U18 winner/runner-up can earn wildcards into M25 main draw or qualifying) given his junior ITF ranking.
Live scoring is up, with top qualifying seed Arthur Attrill a set down to Laurie Wilkin.
Maybe just me, but I'm always surprised by quite how many names there are on these quali lists that I've never heard of.
It's true I don't follow county tennis or lower level junior LTA events. But these are the U16s, and you've got the best 12 players in the MD, and also the next best 32 in qualis. It's quite a small group. And given how many ITF junior events are now being staged in the UK, I'm amazed at how many of these names have never even participated in an ITF event

There is a big difference between the boys and girls, where most of those in the under16 qualis do have an ITF ranking. Like you I don't follow junior tennis below ITF/TE level, but I guess that the physical difference between 15 and 17 year old boys may be a factor in dissuading some boys from attempting ITF qualis in the UK until past 16

I think that there is a real divide in juniors, of course the academy and LTA supported players have great results both domestic and ITF, and for those who fall outside a lot are home schooled to various levels so are pretty much full time tennis and can travel. Sone of these wont be academically eligible into the US college route. Some juniors are in academic schools so limited play for 06/07 players due to GCSE mocks and exams starting in May, and some parents cant afford overseas travel so cant get into domestic ITF as no points and outside LTA wildcard radar.
Is anyone able to remember who won the respective boys and girls under 16 and 18 titles last year? And was it played in previous years (I guess Im wondering if there is a honours board for past winners listed anywhere ?)

Mimi Xu won both girls events last year. Luca Pow (U18) and Henry Searle (U16) the boys, but i don't know where you can find a honours board. The competition dwindled in terms of top players in the last decade or so, until last year's introduction of wild card carrots

Thanks DavidC, no worries and am looking forward to these events. Was it last year or year before when they played these on grass at Surbiton?
Thank you - are these indoor or outdoor - the lta page doesnt say , but has an outdoor picture? If so, thats risky in early April - its cold and hardly guaranteed to be dry?

It is an outdoor event - they can move indoors if necessary.
