Do the qualifying matches have a video link?

I can't understand why Erin Pearce isn't in the main draw.

To answer my own question above, and also looking at the boys draw & qualifying, I know it might be common practice, but with so many good players, especially the 2007 cohort, I think the main draw should be larger.

No video link that I know of - if anyone finds one, please let me know biggrin

Someone on one of the pages before explained the matrix they use for rating players (hence, why Erin wouldn't have enough points to be main draw direct) - I guess at least as long as the matrix is published well in advance, then players can choose whether to prioritise it, or not.

I'd be happy with a larger draw as long as it has a progressive staggered approach - which, tbh, means that you're not much different from a main draw and quali draw. Given there are boys and girls, and doubles as well, I think a big draw would be logistically not that easy at this time of year. And, to me, it's not necessary - I've been brought up with the progressive concept, though - why would you put a far lower ranked player against your top seed? It's daft for the top players to play lots of rounds with very one-sdied scores and - more importantly - it's really discouraging for the others. Of course, there's always the chance of a real upset - but there's far, far more chance that it's just a one-sided score and, anyway, that's why you have qualis - so the other gets a chance to feed up to the higher ranked one. As long as the ranking events are open to all, that the matrix is sensible, it seems the right approach. And, at the moment, for instance, there are a lot of ITF junior domestic events, so the argument against a few years' ago (which was a good argument - don't use ITF points, if you have to travel abroad to get them, it's not fair) doesn't apply now.

But 2007 are still under 16 so have two more years to do u18 nationals. Some obviously do have the points or wc to do it this year, others may come through qualifying, but all of the 2007 have two more years in u18 to make progress if they can  so I don't see the problem. As mentioned, I think on the boys thread, there used to be a 32 draw, but no qualifying, played in nottm, but with u16 overlapping both u18 and u14 at same venue which used to distort the results somewhat with players doubling up. I think current system is better all in all.

You're a true star, Lambda !!!

And, I guess, good job I didn't realise yesterday - I actually got quite a lot of work done yesterday - which most definitely would NOT have happened if I'd have known

Thanks again

Hannah Klugman is the next one, with a 6-4 6-0 win over Hannah Read
Some lovely tennis, expecially when she loosened up a bit, after a rather touch and go first set.

And Mika def. Jaquelyn Ogunwale 6-4 6-3

The youngsters doing well....

Yes - Ella was really, really unimpressive - still is, even in the second set where she's winning

I don't thin she's 'won' a single point
