Harriets game is less effective on clay - she won a total of 7 games in 3 WTA tournaments last year on clay. If shes low in confidence dropping a level on hard and getting some wins in might get her confidence up for the grass.

I watched most of Jodies match and as a fan of hers it was hugely disappointing. Shes a set and 4 2 up without even playing that well. She then started to lose her head and very much like this time last year you knew the match had gone. Needs to get back to the sports psychologist pronto. Maybe also drop a level to get game time
Jodie's team allowed her to get away with murder as a teenager and it didn't do her any favours
Although, to be honest, they allowed all of their players to get away with murder
I've watched Colin Beecher, Lucie Ahl et al, standing courtside, watching Jodie, and Freya, etc - and the girls have been going in for major amateur dramatics that no self-respecting Spanish coach or whoever would ever put up with in a month of Sundays. And they have said and done nothing. Utterly ridiculous. It's a real shame. It just looks like spoilt kids.
I've always thought that a bit of tough love is what's called for.......
But maybe next week Jodie will be back on form and this will just be one that got away.....
But that's not her team now is it? She left JTC didn't she?
I think people are being a tad harsh on Jodie. She's had her problems but this was only her third tournament back after injury. It takes a while to get back to full match fitness both from a physical but also a mental perspective.
I agree with those suggesting our GB women take a look at their scheduling and drop down a level or two. String a few wins together in some of the mid ranking ITF tournaments and their confidence will start to return. All seem a bit stagnant at the moment.
I'd include Heather in this if she wants to. Her defeat against Muchova was pretty sobering in all honesty.
Emma has a tough match coming up though whether both make the start line or get past the first set without some kind of medical/physical drama is a moot point.

I recall a loss last year on clay to a German ranked in the 700s....that's pretty darn bad.

Less who wins the match than who can finish the match since Bianca has her share of woe since her USO win

It is a tough draw, every match in this tournament would be tough for Emma. If matches go according to ranking her route (including ranking and previous meetings would be:
Andreescu 31 L
Sakkari 10 W
Kalinina 28 L
Bencic 9 W
Jabeur 5
Sabalenka 2
Swiatek 1 LL
If fit and on form Emma might be ready to beat some top 10 players but not yet top 5, so I think the best hope would be to go out to Jabeur in the QF. That said she could go out against every one of these players if they are on form or Emma not 100%.
They're all dropping down to W60/40 level next week, Harriet currently down for 2 x W40 in the next couple of weeks, one indoor hard, the other clay. Jodie and the 2 Katies doing the same

Harsh or not on Jodie. She was so close to the winning post. Really should have found a way through. She's not far now from the worlds top 100 and this was a real opportunity to reach the main draw of a 1000 event. I hope Jodie sits down and sees this match as one that should not have got away from her.

I think thats where I was coming from. If She could get the same mentality that she had in the second half of last year She could still push on further. Maybe that will come once she gets a few matches won. It's a little unfortunate that there were 2 big events straight after She came back. It may have been better to get towards the tail end of a W40 when She first came back. Lets hope this starts next week
