Loses 6-3 in the third. Was a tight one but she could have taken it. A handful more half-decent first serves in the second set would probably have been enough, and then the footwork started to fall apart.
Oh Jesus that was god awful, another match thrown away due to poor mental game. Jodie can be so frustrating to watch, she seems to get lost in her head sometimes and make terrible on court decisions because of a rush of blood to the head. And she was fortunate at the end there, that ball she swatted away in a fit of pique could have gone into the crowd.

Yes I'm not 100% convinced she knew exactly where it was going. Something her team shouldn't let slide but, well, they've indulged self-harming on court behaviour for long enough already. The sloppy footwork was so odd as she was moving well around the ball yesterday, and even last week when she got beating by Birrell I didn't think it was the movement that was necessarily the issue there.
Particularly frustrating given the qualifier spots are really quite good overall.
Tricky one. On the one hand this is SO much better from Harriet, on her toes, stepping in, attacking. On the other, she was 4-2 *40-0 up... and made a couple of silly mistakes in points she was dominating in the tiebreak (terrible drop shot at 3-3*, bad forehand error at 4-5*).
I'm going to try and cling to the positive that at least she is generally playing a much better level than much of this year.
Jodie's team allowed her to get away with murder as a teenager and it didn't do her any favours
Although, to be honest, they allowed all of their players to get away with murder
I've watched Colin Beecher, Lucie Ahl et al, standing courtside, watching Jodie, and Freya, etc - and the girls have been going in for major amateur dramatics that no self-respecting Spanish coach or whoever would ever put up with in a month of Sundays. And they have said and done nothing. Utterly ridiculous. It's a real shame. It just looks like spoilt kids.
I've always thought that a bit of tough love is what's called for.......
But maybe next week Jodie will be back on form and this will just be one that got away.....
Harriet becoming too predictable just constantly going hard with the forehand into the corner. Tsurenko knows that's where it's going and then Harriet ends up driving it wide under pressure when she could have hit a winner down the line 2 shots ago.
I had to leave Jodie's match when she was up a set although just been broken back in the second set.
Undoubtably she has generally stayed in matches a lot better in the last 8 months or so compared to the previous regular third set capitulations. But this seemed a reversion to previous type with a lot to do with mindset and determination as opposed to ability re some of the issues.
Certainly a top 100 player there. Make it happen, Jodie!! - grow up! Help her make it happen, coaches.
And yes, with the byes for the 32 seeds at Indian Wells and Miami, many of the qualifier spots for R1 invariably look not so awful. More's the pity.
