And having held, she then - on her seventh (!) break point - manages to break and go 2-0 up

I was surprised Eden is at a career high as it doesnt seem like she is going anywhere. Hard to see her as a top 250 player and these results dont add to any thoughts that she will go higher.

She has actually hugely advanced her CH over the last year or so, having never been inside the top 400 before last year.

Clearly there were early hopes of more for her. But then, for whatever reasons, she plateaued for quite a number of years, so it was good to see that advancement last year.

I think it not unreasonable to think that she might further advance into the top 250, though much beyond that I would have a lot more doubts.

I think a player aged 26, say, who has just broken into the top 300, has every chance of getting into the top 250.

If she carries on without injury for 5 years, I'd say it's almost certain, at some point.

But what's SO irritating is that Eden has a technically really nice game, abd is athletic, but just doesn't seem able to get her act together to be a real 220 player, making grand slam qualis as of right...

However, I still feel that she could jump up a level, quite realistically.

Unlike Maia, or Eliz, or Anna, for instance (although I might be quite wrong about them, and would love to be)

Slightly strange she seems to get more media coverage in India playing a relatively minor tournament than at home where the UK media don't seem to know she even exists.

A nice interview, and a good, achievable short term goal of grand slam qualies. However I'm not sure I agree with the strapline that her mental strength is one of her best qualities; one never knows of course but that is not the impression you get watching Eden.

First set in the bag 7-5. A bit of a roller-coaster though - from 3-1 to 3-5 to 7-5

A shout-out to 15 year-old Brenda Fruhvirtova (CZE), who took the title here today.

At the tender age of 15, Brenda has given up juniors - and you can't blame here, she's shooting up the ranks in adults at the speed of light

And her 17 year-old sister is already WTA 53...
