5 years slugging it out in weak 15k tournaments. Does anybody know her background or story? Im assuming there is no grand plan to progress further than this. Does she coach or have a family to supplement her hobby?

Why should Emilie's tennis be deemed a 'hobby'? Strangely Scottish players are never pursuing a hobby when they play!

Whats your point here exactly? Dont think you have one really. Can only think of Maia Lumsden who has been ranked 250 and Anna Brogan pushing top 350 that have made any inroads. So Im sure there are some that have it as a hobby.

There are certainly plenty of backpackers, students and youngsters that play for fun in the qualies. No idea their backgrounds or  what home nation they represent so maybe you can fill me it?

My point is that you have in the past described players as 'pursuing a hobby' when you do not consider them of a high standard. This seems a remarkably derogatory thing to say about players who, almost without exception, have dreams of making the big time. Most will not succeed but comments like yours are grossly unfair. I have no idea about Emilie's background or source of income and frankly it is not my business-nor yours! She should, however be commended for carrying on trying and gradually improving her world ranking. Being ranked in the top 600 in the world in any professional sport is a great deal more than 'pursuing a hobby'!

You have just said you have no idea about background or intention therefore you are contradicting yourself there Im afraid.

Its a perfectly valid comment to make if a player is stationed playing almost every match they play in Egypt or Tunisia 15k tournaments.l for the last 5 years. Hobby might not be the right word but its hardly derogatory. Vocation mixing with playing/coaching is what I was meaning.

Also commenting on what is someones business or not is odd given this is a public forum. You sounded like an angry wee man here Telstar bit of perspective. Its perfectly reasonable to ask what the plan is.

End of of my input and apology accepted in advance from you for your unreasonable rant by the way.

I think what he/she's saying, Jaggy, is that Emilie isn't any different from Anna, who you are fond of - both are women in their early 20s, having a go, both within a stone's throw of each other in real terms.
And yet you don't tag Anna as being a hobby player
There's a point there
Neither Anna nor Emilie are living off their tennis - both must either rely on family or are doing odd jobs (tennis coaching, bar work, as Lucy Brown used to, whatever) to try and make ends meet. As with many others.....

One player is playing 15ks in mainly one country the other is competing in varying tournaments. His comment was thinly veiled xenophobia as well but I will let that slip.

At the time of writing her counting tournaments are about half and half 25k and 15k. She does seem to favour what one might loosely call the Mediterranean basin. Interestingly most of the 25k expire earlier than most of the 15k. I wonder whether she has been ill or injured and is trying to get back into the groove in Sharm?

Does anyone know exactly what players get for reaching each round of an ITF tournament. I have seen figures for Grand Slams and some of the other WTA events but the only information they give for ITF events is the total prize money.

Go to page 150, Peter.

This is 2022, though, I think.

This year's must be around somewhere but must be similar....

Telstar's comment seemed to be to me a response to your regular unpleasant comments about lower-ranked players!

You regular make derogatory comments about 'hobbyists' and doubles specialists.  It's more than a bit rich of you to accuse me of xenophobia and unreasonable ranting. You'll get no apology from me!

and the points table is on page 154, which is actually page 161 of the pdf

It looks as if someone good enough to be seeded in a W15 could earn around $20K a year playing regularly. That might be enough to rent a small flat and buy food locally if costs are low in one of the locations that have regular tournaments, like Sharm, Antalya or Monastir.
