Well done Liam, again, certainly come back to form recently. Shame his ranking dropped again this week, losing a lot of points from last year so playing catch up this week. But direction of travel is good!

The good news is he's only defending six points for the following two months, so will hopefully pick up again a good number of the points he may drop this week.

thats good to hear - I wonder if there is a chance of getting to direct entry in time for Wimbledon , that would be a great target for him!

Moving up from 150 to 125 is hard but that last jump from 125 to 100 seems so much for some players, in so many cases a ceiling that cannot get be broken though cry

But last 32, 3R, points for last year's Wimbledon would have helped his ranking since then.

Another tough match ( I assume) let his singles ranking drop to focus on doubles. Or am I wrong again?

The boys were up a break at the start of the second set.

Hes not done anything of note in singles since pre lockdown and I would expect Liam will be too good for him. You never know though.

The positive thing is he is currently 71 in the race. Whilst it will be easier for people ranked higher than him who are below him in the race to get bigger points as they will be in bigger tournaments, if Liam continues to perform to the level his is this year the ranking rise is inevitable.

It is though just over 2 months into the race. So while yes if he continues through the year at that points gathering rate he will crack the top 100, it is a pretty small sample. 100 of his current 181 race points came from his Vilnius Challenger title. Stan Wawrinka is the current WR 100 with 557 points from a whole year.

I do reckon that he is still more likely not to make the top 100 than make it but I'd love to be proved wrong.

From memory, Liam had an extremely strong start to last season as well and so will have a lot of points to defend in the first 6 months. I think he was very high in the 'race' ranking at this stage last year too. But after Wimbledon, his form dropped off.

So for Liam, if he can hold station up until June/July, his chances of improving his ranking will be much higher after that.

He also got an injury in late September. He reached the QFs in Tel Aviv 250 event had to give a walkover and wasnt seen again till the end of the October. I think he was down to play some other 250 events in the October.
