Week 8 - ITF W25 - Tucuman, Argentina Clay

Fran has entered using her Special Ranking of 155 according to the ITF acceptance list. But SR isn't used for seeding, otherwise she would have been the top seed here.
Unfortunately this means the Carolina Alves WR226 and seeded 3 is awaiting the winner. It is a 48 draw ths week, so the 16 seeded players get a first round bye.

Let's just hope she can get through the match in one piece.

I imagine she chose clay as her first tournament back to limit the stresses. The only other clay tournament was a W15 which would probably be a bit too much of a come down.

Isn't clay her best surface anyway?

Do you know that it's a foot/leg/hip/back problem?

I have no idea but was assuming it's her 'normal' hand and wrist problem. In which case, clay wouldn't be any less stress (in fact, probably more)

Either way, good to see her back and, as Paul says, hopefully it's not fleeting

I just realised, this was her 2nd match back. She retired in the 3rd against Katy Dunne in Sunderland earlier this year. What had kept her out of the game the last time is unclear, a couple of times she had to retire with full body cramps, but it is good to see her back.

R2: JONES, Francesca (GBR) SR UNR (CH=149 2022) v ALVES, Carolina (BRA) (3) 226 (CH=165 2022)
They played three times in 2018 with Fran winning two and Carolina one.

Carolina might prove a bit of a challenge at this stage of Fran's come-back. I couldn't get the video link to stay up for more than a few seconds but from the statistics it looks as if Fran is still a bit rusty, with 11 DFs, 7 breaks of service and 3 losses of service but it's good to have added a few ranking points.

How many points would she get for a last 64 win?

The enormous sum of three points. Then it is back on normal W25 points - 5, 9, 18, 30, 50

And very tough conditions, it's 30degrees out that. Glad she got through it.

So good to see her back.  I had been watching the entries hoping she would not withdraw as she did for the last half of 2022.
