 I think this is a reflection on a lot of young players that go the doubles route too early in their career. The tennis brain on doubles means you generally are positioned where you hit your last shot. So that is certainly something that could be worked on but Id imagine doubles would have to be placed on the backburner for a bit and I doubt that would happen. Ali Collins suffered from that as well when I watched her. Contrast with SarahBeth who improved a lot and would be top 200 singles likely had she not been Ill. She generally put doubles to the side and look what happened. The positioning aspect and shot selection is a key part of the game even more so in the womens game.

I agree, Peter. For somone who is young and athletic, she's a little slow to 'move, set, hit, recover'
Interesting point, Jaggy, as to whether doubles has caused the problem/ exacerbated the problem/ meant she's failed to deal with the problem.....
I'm not sure but you may well have a point
One far smaller thing I notice, which might also back up the too-much-doubles theory, is that she is often very bad with the short balls, at coming to the net.
She's very competent AT the net, and sees the ball well, and the space etc.
But when she gets a short ball and tries to come in off it, she often slices it too short and mid court, or does a pretty bad drop shot (whereas her drop shot from the back of the court is actually quite good)
And that may be because in dubs, she's usually AT the net, or - often - you come in 'contretemps', you're not often dragged in from a short ball.
It's not a deal killer, and a reasonably small issue compared to the other, but I've noticed it quite often

Christie/Collins going well here in the doubles. They took the first set 6-2 and their opponents are serving at 4-5 in the second to stay in the match.

Or maybe not so well........ They served for the match at 5-3, but ended up losing the set in a tie-break. Into the MTB lottery.

Hmm. Not bad so far, 5-3 up but long way to go. You'd assume extra experience of Gorgodze would give her pair an edge in this situation...

Some tense rallies but Christie/Collins holding their lead. 9-6.

Their opponents in the final won't be known today, as Wickmayer and Minnen both had singles QF's today and their doubles SF wasn't scheduled. Don't know why it wasn't !

Worth remembering that Alicia & Olivia didn't win their first 60k title until April last year...if Freya & Ali win here, they'll have 4!

The Belgians have lost just 8 games in total in their 3 matches whereas Freya & Ali have had MTB wins in both their QF and SF.
