Week 7 - ITF W60 - Altenkirchen, Germany (indoor carpet)

Shame about the draw for Emily; Tauson has just reached a WTA QF beating Begu and Giorgi.

Surprised to see her at this level but she has been out injured for some time.

Lily is not playing at all well. The court might be empty but ashe hits the ball way out or into the net.

Hope she gets her touch back or she will lose this easily

Turning into a really bad day at the office for Lily, though it does encapsulate just how quiet her on-court demeanour is. Some players would have got an obscenity warning by now...

Fingers crossed, she's turned it around - up a break in the final set.

Watched some of this; Emily played pretty well, but her serve not quite as consistent as needed, and overhit at pressure points quite often. But certainly not outclassed against a strong opponent.

There were a lot of unreturned serves from both players. Emily served 9 aces to Clara's 10.

I thought (as usual) Emily's serve was the best bit of her game - in fact, she has a far better serve than her ranking would suggest. But, yes, although she has quite a lot of power on her groundshots, she does often overhit (and also reverts to defence too quickly), she just doesn't quite have the move, set, hit routine off quickly enough

But I agree, it was a decent performance, the score is fair, she put up a good showing

It's a real shame she doesn't have a coach (if I remember correctly from mum's blog), because she has a lot going for her.

One impression I got was that after playing a shot she didn't get into position to cover the possible angles of a next shot quickly enough and found herself stranded too far from the next shot. But I wasn't sure if that was due to a weakness in Emily's game or to skilled play from her opponent.
