Boys & Girls: J300 Barranquilla, Colombia, hard (Week 6)

The hard court section of the Latin American swing ends this week in Colombia with 48 player draws, so only Ellie Blackford and Daniela Piani needed to go through qualifying, both successful.  Henry Searle's good run in San Jose gives him a high seeding here, while in early matches there is a win for Ruby Cooling offset by a loss for Given Roach.  Unfortunately Hugo Coquelin and Imogen Haddad have withdrawn - Imogen seemingly not recovered from whatever caused her retirement last week.

Boys R1 (L48)

(15) Luca Pow bye

(3) Henry Searle bye

Max Stenzer (GER) v Oliver Bonding

(14) Phoenix Weir bye

Girls R1 (L48)

(Q) Ellie Blackford v (WC) Valentina Mediorreal Arias (COL)

(6) Hephzibah Oluwadare bye

(7) Isabelle Lacy bye

Jay De Zeeuc (NED) d. Given Roach 6-3 6-1

Well done, Oliver !

He's the youngest GB boy here - only born in 2007

In the doubles, Luca & Phoenix have made the semis

As have Isabelle & Hep

It hasn't been a successful trip for Hep in singles, but at least she (and Isabelle) have consistently gone deep in doubles.

(4) Blanch/Chan (USA/CAN) v (2) Pow/Weir

Girls Doubles SF

(3) Harmon/Ray (USA) v (2) Lacy/Oluwadare

Good news in that Oliver and Isabelle are into the singles semi final and both doubles teams won to make the finals

Love the fact that Oliver

(1) played two events in Ecuador on this trip and got precisely nothing
(2) one event in Costa Rica, with a single win
(3) NOW has blasted into the semis, of a J1 !

This will be his biggest counter to date (and not stopped yet....)

 Well done to both!

It's Isabelle's first singles semi final at this level as well, although she's won a J2 tournament before. Big jump in opponent though, playing someone who's recently been top 20 in juniors. Glad to see her doing well in doubles too as net play seemed like a part of her singles game that needed development.

Good luck to Oliver and Isabelle in the semis and to all our doubles finalists.

A rarity to have British involvement at this late stage of all four competitions in a J300 (Grade 1) smile  There will be 6 different finalists in the three boys' singles events, so let's hope Oliver will be the first Brit.  A different story with the girls where Iva Jovic is on course for the treble (just 4 games dropped so far this week)
