Week 5 - WTA250 - Hua Hin, Thailand Hard

Really a question of who wants to lose more. Really not very good at all by either player. I am still hopeful Katie can turn this round.

Didn't deserve the win today, very messy. Disappointing opportunity missed.

Katie's form constantly seems to be all over the place, disappointing.

Heather and Harriet also lost the doubles on a deciding tie break. They were a break up in the second set as well. Very disappointing

The details

L16: (WC) Luksika Kumkhum & Peangtarn Plipuech (THA/THA) CR 451 (312+139) def Harriet Dart & Heather Watson CR 257 (115+142) (3)6-7 6-4 10-6

The Thai girls have played a lot of doubles, but it is still a disappointing result, particularly as H+H dropped serve five times.

I never expect any of the British women to win, so when one does it is always a pleasant surprise.

Both Lily and Jodie have beaten Jang in 2023.

Why is Katie so streaky? No signs of fatigue here. Does she train well?

Pretty disappointing after such a great start to the year

Heather playing pretty well. Had a set point at 5-4* and she played a good rally working the ball around but Poots found a screamer down the line.

Dreadful service game to be broken, then had a couple of break points for a tiebreak. One she got to the drop shot but slammed the ball into the net. Poots takes her fourth set point. Close but not quite, and you could see a lot of belief just evaporate as she walked back to her chair.

5-7 *0-0

Not sure about training but Katie's opponent last win on the main WTA tour was in 2016.

I watched the match and her opponent had a lightweight game, should have really been on Katie's racket but there was really no game plan and lots of errors. It looked like she hadn't been training recently. Very disappointing result
