A sizeable group of Brits are tackling the hard court section of the Latin American swing of high grade events (which moves on to clay in February)  6 Brits in the main draws, plus Ellie Blackford, who lost in qualifying.  Surprised to see that Ruby Cooling has been granted a wild card, rather than having to go through qualifying.

Although there are no results on the ITF page I note that on the Coffee Bowl website Henry and Oliver appear to have posted wins (6-3 7-6 for Henry and 3-6 6-3 6-1 for Oliver). Isabelle plays later.

Not a good day today, with Hep falling to the young American who impressed in the World Juniors last year and Phoenix continuing his pattern of losing early in junior events (just one win in his last 7 ). Oliver has a tough round 2 against a Czech lad who consistently goes deep in tournaments, reaching a J200 final reently

Ruby & partner, and Hep & Isabelle both got wins in the doubles and are into the QFs

AS did Henry+ and Oliver+

But Phoenix+, despite being top seeds, lost in a MTB

Which adds to Phoenix's dearth of results in recent months

Disappointingly with 4 seeds, only Henry reaches the quarter-finals. I notice that the tournament's Facebook page is streaming some of the matches from Centre Court. Here is part of Phoenix's first round match but with no score graphic

Better news from San Jose today as Henry makes his first semi at this level (opponent to be determined, but could well be the Czech third seed who accounted for Oliver - and who faces Henry in the doubles semis. Ruby Cooling also reaches that stage.)

Henry finishes with his first title at this level smile 

It should be noted that the boys title went to 14 year old Thijs Boogaard - his fifth successive tournament win, which will propel him into the top 50 - extremely rare for a boy of his age. At the same time last year he was winning Les Petits As
