I don't think Matilda has been based in the UK for years. The family reportedly moved back to Serbia when she was 11 and she spent most of the years since then at various academies in Europe.

Thanks, that's what I'd sort of understood. And it makes sense (hasn't Vlada Kozak done the same too?)

If she's no extended family at all here, there's no reason she'd come.

I vaguely recall hearing that Mutavdzic was based at an academy in Belgium, so playing at a French W60 would probably make more sense, assuming she hasn't relocated somewhere else.

On another note, I always find it curious when you get cases of the opposite (non-GB players moving to the UK to train). Bolkvadze is still based in London I believe.

Well, Sof is giving it a try. Was her quad/hip that went in the cold despite warming up as best she could.

Shame as this was definitely a match to break their 2023 duck but have to manage expectations now.

0-0*

Going ok so far. They are up a double break after 20 minutes played.

Argh. Got broken to 15 serving for the match, then after saving 2 set points to get to the tiebreak lost the first 5 points and it went 3-7.

Jebawy/Wargnier take second set on a tiebreak unfortunately.

The girls were up *5-2 but lost all their remaining points on serve, making it 3 MTB losses in a row. Even with the injury Sof was carrying I really thought they were going to get over the line

Lose 6-2 6-7(3) 6-10...

That is a big shame. Been looking forward to Emily finally cracking top 100 in doubles.

Wouldn't it be superb if Em ever did make the top 100.

I am sure it will never happen now, that time has passed. But it is just great how she continues to travel and compete at such levels many years after one or two folk would have her retire. All power to her.

I'm surprised only as her parents don't seem to be in the best of health and thought she might want to stay close to them.

I expect her parents would be gutted if she stopped her career and love, simply because they were ailing somewhat. They might be ailing for years. It might be their great joy to follow Em on her journies. And the travel life of tennis players means they're back and forth a lot - plenty of time to check in. Not to mention that remote is so easy too.

No idea, but would hate Em to think it's implied that she doesn't care for her parents.
