The top seed was below Maia and Eden so they have probably been moved to the Main draw. Eliz, Freya and Sarah Beth are missing and probably got WCs.

What is the ruling on Protected Rankings please? Do players have to apply for them or are they automatic? Maia, for example, seems to have used hers on several occasions while Fran doesn't seem to have one.

So who else is going to get a wild card? They usually give a WC to one of our juniors. There are not any high ranking ones listed in the acceptances, 16 year old Erin Pearce is probably the highest with a JCH=400.

Probably, as at Loughborough, to a junior who didn't enter. Unfairly so, imho.

I think this came up with Katy Dunne's situation and as they are limited, the athlete uses them sparingly.

I'll take a punt on Sonay

A player applies to have a protected ranking. Once she has a PR she can choose to enter a tournament with either her current ranking or her protected ranking. She can play in 8 tournaments with her protected ranking where she would not have got in otherwise if out for less than 52 weeks, or 12 if out for 52 weeks or longer.

Fran does have a PR as she had entered a 125K with it but has chosen not to use it in the ITFs she has entered. Although it is now more then 52 weeks since Fran last played a pro match, because she played the UKPL at the beginning of the month she will only have 8 PRs to use.

Really, they use the UKPL for counting purposes even though it is effectively just an exhibition?! That seems draconian!

This is a 60K though, which has a different WC policy to 25Ks. In a 25, the policy is to give WCs to 21 and under, usually on a LTA development programme. In 60K and 100Ks the policy is to give WCs to those with the highest potential to reach the top 100 or by order of ranking has the best chance to succeed at this level.

With Burrage injured, there is really only Swan and Kartal that fit the criteria, with possibly Brogan as an outside possibility. If it were to go to a junior, the only one I can think of that could meet the criteria and not committed elsewhere is Xu, but I think she might be injured? Not seen her name for a while.

Even worse than that, you stop being out of competition as soon as you play any tennis event or any other organised sport. They can get an exemption to play an exhibition, but I'd imagine that would be more for exhibitions focused on entertainment than competition.

Tennis event defined as any WTA Tournament, Grand Slam, ITF (including World Tennis Tour and Billie Jean King Cup) event, Olympic or Olympic Qualification event, or Exhibition/Non-WTA Event, regardless of whether ranking points are awarded.

Annoyingly Emily App & Katy are in the same section here so only 1 can qualify.

Oh, and Fran of course. What a loaded section!

I havent looked at the rules but theres no way thats the rule. Shes already had the time out, playing a non ranking event would not reduce her PR allocation.
